Oil in the intercooler
Got the car back from the body shop and picked up all the old parts.
The intercooler has a lot of black oil in it! What's up with that????? |

Welcome to EGR and PCV. Some cars are worse than others. My Jetta TDI will collect about a teaspoon-full every 10,000km. I've never taken a look at my D's IC, though.

If the turbo was blown, it should be pretty easy to notice when driving the car, no?

I'll support the fact that some is normal. A lot - not. My VW TDI had about 4oz after ~30k miles. I installed a filter that I got from a local agricultural store, it had a stainless screen on it to separate the oil from the air and then mounted it behind the radiator.
Long term you want to keep oil from the intake as it mixes with the carbon from the EGR and plugs up the intake. Look over at the TDI forum and you will see a lot of talk (and cleaning) of it. I even purchase an ultrasonic cleaner to clean out my ERG cooler on my TDI...I have not dove into my 335d yet, but will this summer. Tom |

This is not normal according to my BMW dealer here. They just replaced the seals in my turbos a month ago. The leaking turbos come from inadequate shut down with a hot engine. After running the car hard for long periods of time the oil is so hot in the turbos that it requires a cool down period for a minimum of 2 minutes to prolong the life of the seals in the turbos.
