Cobb stage 2 traps 105??!
Hey guys I recently went to the drag strip in Sacramento and had a great time out there with some friends but after about 10 runs the best time I could get was 13.5 @ 105 granted that was with 2.4 second 60 ft time but I thought I should atleast be trapping higher, my friends headers and axelback gto was able to cut a 13.0 @ 109 and he beats me from rolls all the time. Anyway my mods are afe sealed intake, AA downpipes and Cobb stage 2. Is there something wrong with my car maybe? Or did I just buy a dud 335i. :/

Without logs we are just guessing.
A 2.4 60 foot either means you rolled out from the light slowly or spun a lot of tire. So you need to clean up your launch. -Elevation? DA? Actual Slip? Last edited by Jeff@TopGearSolutions; 01-03-2012 at 02:31 PM.. |

I think it's actually a pretty normal time. Most people talk about 115-118mph traps and when you look at most timeslips you don't see more than 110...the boost is pretty low at higher RPMs on Cobb Stage 2. The timing is also not very high. These times are normal.

I had it on stage 1 with the downpipes installed and it pulled the same as stage 2 with downpipes. I was using my friends gto as a base mark because he pulled the same amount on both stage 1 and 2.

No offence, but either you're a terrible driver or something is very wrong with your car. A header back GTO should be good run for a stock stage 1 car, stage 2+ should embarass him. At least that's result i got when i was messing with a GTO a couple weeks ago.

I have a couple questions. What's the track's elevation and conditions? How bad did you spin down track? Even with the bad 60ft, that's a low trap speed IMO for your mods. Did you let the car cool down at all before making your runs? I usually allow for cool down between my runs at the strip.

Ya I just keep seeing people getting mid 12's and over 110 trap speeds on Cobb stage 2. Guess I need to work on my launch and maybe throw an intercooler in there too.

Depending on the situation spinning can make or break your trap. With a 2.4 60 foot you are not getting a good snapshot of the true capability.
If you have any logs that can tell us the rest of the story, otherwise you probably just need to improve your launches. |

The hole shot makes a big differnce in you trap speed.
Tune,intake,meth on 17psi and i only could do 13.1 @110mph. With a 2.2 60ft. spinning all of first and 2nd gear. I got my 60ft down to 2.0 and did 12.7 @ 113 spinning 2nd gear

Man Honestly Im not too familiar with the cobb setup and stages since im running the JB4. I have AR downpipes Stett CAI Stett exhaust along with the JB4 on autotune map 5 and at the strip im pretty consistant on my launches trapping 1.7 60' launching in 2nd gear (because first is pointless all you do is spin) and I run right around a 12.3-12.4 at 115-117mph. I also run a 3 gallon E85/93 mix on a regular basis and peak boost is around 16psi. I also shift right around 6200 as well as OP said because the more you go to rediline the more the boost drops off and you loose LOTS of power. You might want to log some runs bro because to me, that just doesnt sound right. I think a stock BMW 335i runs a 13.1 from the factory so I would assume somethings not right with your car. Also you definently need to improve your launches as well so try 2nd gear instead. Should be ALOT better for ya!

Should I try 2nd gear even tho I have a Manuel ? Because I'm pretty sure that would toast my clutch a bit..

No, i would not launch in 2nd with a 6MT. Just practice launching in 1st. Depending on conditions, you may not be able to "launch" it. You may just have to take off aggresively and roll into it in 1st. It's not ideal, but it's better than doing a burnout to the 60' mark lol

13.5 at 105 is basically what a dead stock e92 335 will run - something is up, either you are spinning a lot, asleep at the wheel or the flash didn't take!
