Would help if you could read the code .... if it was caused by the exhaust install then I'm thinking one of the O2 sensors got knocked around.

Your right, I went back to the shop and showed them. they plugged it in and it was an O2 sensor. It was getting voltage so he seems to think its ok. He cleared the error codes and things seem to be ok so far. Hopefully they stay ok. Does this kind of thing happen with exhaust swaps? Does it sound like something that may need to be replaced or just was knocked around and error codes are cleared and should be ok? thanks for everyones help. Its greatly appreciated.

Well, I spoke to soon. I just ran out to go to the store and as soon as I started the car, the service engine soon light came on. So Im guessing this problem is not cured. And idea what my next step would be besides go back to the shop that installed the exhaust? Its obviously the O2 sensors but do they have to be replaced now because of this issue? Sorry if Im asking dumb questions, Im just not too familiar with this kind of stuff.

They shouldn't have touched your o2 sensors to install a catback...both o2s are on downpipes

I had a shop do it. They work on BMWs on a normal basis so I figured it would be fine. But Im guessing the O2 sensors must have got bumped. Not sure what could have happened. But Im not very happy with the service engine light on. Im hoping they take care of the situation. It didnt have that issue when it when in. Are you thinking they have to be replaced?

Still don't know if it's the O2 sensors at this point though. The SES light doesn't come on instantly if there are issues - it takes a while. So, unplugging/plugging in the O2 sensor might have done nothing.

Where are you in Philly? I can read your codes .....

And no I've not heard of this happening with a catback exhaust change.

actually the codes were the O2 sensors. I dont know exactly what the codes said, but the shop showed me the codes as he had his system plugged into the cars computer. he said it was the O2 sensor that was causing the ses light, he then cleared the codes and the car was fine as I drove around a while. I went home then about an hour later went out and when I started the car the ses light was on again. I'm from the levittown area by the way. thanks for your responses.

This happened to me recently too. SES light came on on a cold start, I think it's from the flapper being removed. It acts like a choke and with it gone the car stutters a bit upon start up. Just a theory, I have no research of knowledge with the subject.

I'm not sure what to think. when the shop showed me the O2 codes then cleared them, I thought the problem was resolved. after I shut the car off and went back outside and started it, the SES light was back on. not very happy.

Give it a day. Same thing happened to me when I first got a catback installed. Must be the car reacting to the less restrictive flow. For me the light went away and never came back after less than a day.

oh so you had the same problem when you had your cat back installed? you didn't have someone delete the codes and clear the service engine soon light, it just went out itself? I'm hoping the car gets used to the exhaust if thats the case.

A choke is installed on an engine intake, usually as part of the carb. The choke restricts air flow into the engine and causes the engine to run rich until it is up to operating temp. Fuel injected engines accomplish the same enrichening by just dumping in a little extra fuel. The flap in our exhausts is not remotely the same at all. It is there to reduce sound and only opens under rapid acceleration.

. I went to a shop in philly that has a great reputation. They are great people and I have heard nothing but good things about them. They found the codes on my car and printed out the sheets for me. Here is exactly what the sheet says, But Im not sure if the actual "code is included. Heres whats causing my Service Engine Soon light to come on:
Digital Motor/diesel electronics(DME/DDE)
*contains 1 fault
*2C9E Oxygen sensor heating after catalytic converter, activation.
Ok does that help anyone as far as the code goes? They said one of my O2 sensors is bad but they would have to get the car on a lift to check it out more thouroughly. If anyone can explain what this is Id greatly appreciate it. I also noticed a few more faults. Not sure if anyone can give me any insight on these as well......

Gateway(CIC-GW/CCC-GW/M-ASK-GW/RAD2-GW)
*contains 1 fault
*E18d Wake up network unsuccessful
I have no clue what that is. And the last one is as follows......
Satellite Radio(SDARS)
*contains 1 fault
*56848 DE10 Ring Break diagnosis has been carried out.
Obviously this has to do with my satelight radio which I use and works fine. So why would it have a fault? thanks for everyones time.

Anyone have any idea what these codes are? I went and found something on this forum with different codes and what they mean, but I couldnt find the exact code that is the issue with my O2 sensors. Does anyone have any idea what they are? Mentioned in above post.
