Major JB4 install problem
I need some help,
I went to install a pinout JB4 that I had purchased on here from another forum member. Once I gained access to the ECU, much to my surprise, there was what looked to be a JB3 installed. I uninstalled that and installed the JB4. I started the car to a ridiculous amount of warnings. Things from "engine malfunction" to "transmission malfunction" and "DSC malfunction". The car would idle fine but you could barely drive it and it would die. I troubleshooted every connection and it looked fine. I was running out of daylight so I decided to put it back to stock. Unfortunately, its still doing the same thing. What in the world could I have done to create this issue. I'm clueless at this point. I am stressing out pretty bad right now. Any and all suggestions would be helpful. |

Sounds like you should put it back to stock and take it to a professional. The pin out harness isn't even sold anymore so maybe its time to upgrade that to the PNP harness JB4.

It is back to stock and still having the same issues. I'm fairly adept at these things. I followed the directions verbatim and double checked everything. I'm guessing that something might have gotten messed up in the process that probably isn't related to the JB4 install at all. I'm just looking for suggestions on where to look.

Was there a Dp fix on the jb3? If so, you may need to revert the pins on the stock connector back to stock. Things get moved around with a Dp fix installed.

The JB4 pinout is different to the JB3 pinout. I had a JB3 pinout and didn't want to spend $$$ on the PnP harness when I upgraded. I have the instructions written down somewhere but found them on Terry's site. It's three or four wires that have to move.
Terry would be the one to help you out.

I did notice and extra adapter that was coming out of the JB3. You can see it in the pic I posted. It wasn't plugged in when I opened up the ECU so I don't think that would have affected anything. I'm not really sure what that was for.

There are no bent pins on the dme and I went through each connection to ensure that they were correct on two different occasions. I'm sure its possible that I made a mistake so I'll check again tomorrow.

Did you uninstall each wire and replace it back to stock one at a time..Its going to be a nightmare for you if you have to trace what wire you messed up putting back into the stock ecu subconnectors because wires look all alike!

Which piece are you talking about that you are missing? That could help me narrow it down.

Maybe you mixed up the o2 sensor wires having it all apart. Make sure the one going to small black spot #6 has a number stamped on the insulation like 525.

I just wanted to update this in case anyone else has the same issue. Thanks to Terry's pics of the stock wire setup, I was able to find that I had one wire one slot over. I fixed it and everything worked perfectly. Thanks for all of the suggestions!
