Happened last night, only noticed late aftenoon. Couple of neighbours came out when they saw me cleaning up the mess. Elderly couple saw 2 people trying to break in etc, 1.10am! lights were flashing. Think they just watched! Alarm didn't sound (i'm always out of bed having a peep if I hear an alarm going)

Nothing missing from glovebox etc...

One other thing the OBD port cover was off and in the footwell, can't see putting the window in would cause this to come out... Had flexi-glass put in for the time being, hopefully proper glass tomorrow or Monday!..

The OBD port would have been used to program a blank key to enable to car to be started.

I'd say they were either disturbed or couldn't get their fucking programmer to work. The people/companies who make this shit should hang their heads in shame. BMW must be partly to blame too.

We will all pay the price for this through increased insurance premiums.

As for alarm not sounding someone posted the other day if you push the button twice whilst locking, it turns off the internal sensors to trigger the alarm. Must be for leaving a dog inside.

Its a worry this OBD stuff.

The double lock thing turns off the motion sensors - so you can leave it locked on a ferry etc. Not sure which bits of the alarm are left on, but presumably opening the door should still set it off. Minis are the same procedure.

I let the police know, thought better to get it logged etc.

And I've had a call back this evening that a similar thing has happened to somebody else in my area/road last night and they had also mentioned about the OBD cover......

I have a really bad feeling my car might be gone soon....

Might glue the OBD cover on.....

Also I never double press to lock, I tested the alarm after it had happened and it worked.. By waving my hand through the now open window...

Get a steering wheel lock. A proper one that covers the whole wheel. They look shite bit it will slow the cunts down may even make them try some one eles car

As above, get a disk lock but to make it harder it needs modified unfortunately with a welder and some steel bar!

Sounds like they've maybe grabbed some info through the OBD to maybe come back later, worth getting the key's changed? I don't know if it will make a difference? :-\

Honestly if the OBD port is open, wouldn't you pay a visit to your local BMW dealership and seeing if a spare key (beside the two you have in your possession) has been programmed into the car and if so delete it detering the said thieves?

Get the car recoded and all keys replaced for peace of mind - insurance should cover this?

In my last car a fuse blew which meant I couldn't used the obd port. Wonder whether pulling this fuse would make the car safer to this approach and whether there is any other impact of this?

Disabling the OBD port is the best option I think, the thieves apparently come to your car with a hand held programmer and program a bare key to your car, so there is nothing a dealer can really do to your already compromised car. I doubt they got to the stage of getting a key synch'd to the car - otherwise they'd have had it away.

So might they wait until you fix the window, then steal it?

Sorry to hear this, this method of stealing cars is getting very worrying.

You can do 'too much' IMO though these obd ports. The manufacturers need to limit the amount of data, or rather the type of data that can pass thru them.

Just hope they are not gonna come back once it's all repaired and have it away.

Buy a Rottweiler and let it sleep in the car at night lol

I think some form of physical deterrent is now required on these cars.

I might 'snip' the +12v feed to the OBD port on my car, simple enough to do behind the socket.
