catless should be fine, but front plate is a must now
get a tow hook style plate and remove it after inspection someone recommended a place in boston before, but cant remember the name do a search for a quick answer

if you have a green plate, then you don't need a front plate. there is a station on main st. watertown thats recommended. don't remember the name but its about 4 blocks from watertown square. it use to be a mobil.

As long as the catless exhaust doesn't throw any codes you should be fine. Every car gets hooked up to the OBDII port now for emissions testing and if there are any stored codes (even if the CEL is off) you'll get rejected.

catless is a violation of federal law.
WHY would someone with the power of an M3 have any excuse for running catless? It's ABSURD!!! All the inspector has to do is look under your car and you've failed inspection. |

If ur not throwing any codes, try going to the shell station near the high school in Brockton, the guy that does the inspection their owns a e90 330i so he is a fan of the brand, let's just say I failed at a Honda dealership with a exhaust and passed there a few years ago...just drive there tell him what u have on and ask him if he think it would be a issue passing the inspection...good luck

leave a hundred dollar bill on the steering wheel column. "Guaranteed to Pass" lol
I'm in western mass, so I dont know of any places that would be relevant for you, but I find more issues trying to pass with a loud exhaust vs catless. Rarely have I heard of them actually looking for the cat. If it passes obd2 readiness it's good in their eyes most of the time |

There's a place I usually go to in Fall River (forget the name, because it's a mom and pop type of place) and I've never had any problems. I had illegal tint on my civic. They probably wouldn't give you a hassle...PM me for details if you're interested.

That's why. You need at least 10 drive cycles before the system will be considered 'ready' for a test. In other words, they've figured out that people clear codes right before going in for an emissions test so now the machine checks to see how many on/off/driving cycles the vehicle has had since it was last cleared. Some places will tell you come back in a week, but usually it's just 10 on/off ignition cycles with some runtime in between (you can't just turn the ignition on/off ten times in a row--the vehicle has to get up to normal operating temperature).

Your best bet is driving around for 150 miles, make sure you don't get any CELs. Anyone here in Mass pass with a 335i/catless downpipes? I'd like to stay catted but there aren't many options for the xi.

The one thing I couldn't help you get by with is the tint believe it or not. I used to pass with my 08 Honda with no cats and the loudest exhaust I've ever heard. That also had a REAL tuning option available (the one thing I miss in this new BMW world) but the ONLY thing I couldn't help someone pass with is tint. They simply don't want to pass illegal tint because the cops will see you from a mile away and then revoke their license to inspect.
It really sucks. Avoid dealerships. The smaller and shittier the gas station the more likely you are to pass. Honestly, don't be above asking "if I give you $100 bill right now will you pass my M3?" You'd be surprised how many shops will lol. Good luck and sweet car! |

335 N54s have 2 sets of cats correct? I won't feel as bad about the catless downpipes if that's the case
edit, just re-searched and found the answer to my question |
