HDD recommendation
As title really, after a HDD for storing pictures and videos but can't decide which one to go for as there are too many brands out there. Needs to be atleast 1TB and should have very good warranty. Please advice.

You should look at a NAS box mate. Try a Buffalo Linkstation Live.
2 year warranty, good software and lots of features out of the box. 1TB ones are generally single disk, but I believe a few larger ones now support multiple disks and RAID technology so if one disk fails you don't lose everything. Why a NAS? Well think of it as a HDD that sits on your network. Most TV's, BD players, PS3's etc will connect and you tend to get a lot of really good features - especially if you use multiple devices with it. Matt |

I've done a fair bit of searching this morning and there aren't many super deals about. This one is a good brand/price but I paid about 50 for my equivalent 1TB NAS. So you might want to wait for a little bit of a drop, depending your need etc.
This looks ok, just a bit slow for 'geeks' tastes: http://www.dabs.com/products/buffalo...m_content=TB00 Matt |

For what you say you want - you don't need a NAS.
Just buy something like this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...14&subcat=1955 And install it in your PC - takes a few minutes and is easy. HDD prices are beginning to drop after the Thai floods sent the price soaring. If I am mistaken and you do wish to share your files on a network or wish to have the security of files stored outside the PC in case of disaster: A NAS http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...d=2125&subcat= Plus you will need the HDD. Or is you have USB 3 or ESata http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00304VVEW and the HDD above. The latter combination works very well and is plug and play. USB 3 is backwards compatable with USB 2. |

oh and if you do wish to connect TVs, game consoles etc just connect something like this
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...d=1626&subcat= to your router with good quality ethernet cable and then the players to the switch. Set up a Home network using the wizzard in Win 7 and off you go. |

I am not going to recommend a drive but will provide some food for thought.
I have a box in my office of every HDD that has ever died on me. There are 2 IDE drives, 4 SATA drives and an external USB drive. Every single one is Western Digital |
