Water Methanol Injection

Fuck me. A thread about cars! Albeit, not a BMW!

So, I had the Golf services for the 11th time in 18 months yesterday. Whilst I was at the garage, I was offered the chance to go for a passenger ride in a couple of cars with Water Meth Injection kits fitted. One just like mine... Boy what a difference!

Anyway, I've provisionally booked a fitting for about 6 weeks off - apparently Stage 2+ cars like mine are seeing 20 whp and a lot more torque.... Just in time for the Ring! Yey!

Matt
Apparently so when combined with more aggressive mapping.

I'll be conservative and stay below 18psi though (currently running 14psi). Some guys in the states are running over 500hp with these mods.

I'm hoping for, circa 450-480hp and 500lb/ft. Should be fun!

There is nothing too special.

Just JB4, AR design downpipes, ETS intercooler and BMS dual cone intakes. Currently about 410-420hp ish. No dyno yet though.

Meth injection adds a whole new dimension. Circa 116 octane and hence allows you to run more boost and timing without risking knock/detonation. Water acts as a chemical intercooler and lowers the intake and exhaust temperatures hugely, giving more power. The injection of meth into the intake helps to clean the valve stems and reduces carbon build up. Therefore it is a great solution to those with a direct injection engine, which suffer badly from carbon buildup on the valves (as no fuel reaches/lubes these).

Jb4 includes progressive meth integration (more meth is injected with more boost/rpm) but also the necessary failsafes to ensure if meth isn't flowing it runs a less aggressive map..

£2k mods for 180hp is pretty good value by comparison to some platforms... Plus not too labour intensive on install so could all easily be removed and sold on at a later date prior to PX'ing the car.

Once the meth is in I'll write up a report with dynolycious app times/pod time slips.

No problems really.

Had a water pump break which wasn't mod related.

20k miles in a year with mainly long journeys. Averaging over 30mpg so not all bad given the performance on tap...

Will change the plugs soon as they've been there 40k miles. Had a slightly rough idle and rare misfire so hope new plugs will cure it. Main reason for going with meth is the cleaning effect to slow carbon buildup.. Honest!

Those are impressive figures Phil, you'll be the nightmare that quite a few drivers of 'superior' cars will regret coming up against!

You should try that approach with the insurers:

Mr Phil to insurance advisor:
Hi,I'd like to advise you of a modification to my car.

IA:
OK Mr Phil, what is the modification?

Mr.Phil:
Water methanol injection.

IA:
Mmm not heard of that before Mr.Phil, could you be a bit more specific?

Mr.Phil:
Yes sure, happy to help.
In a nutshell, meth injection adds a whole new dimension. Circa 116 octane and hence allows you to run more boost and timing without risking knock/detonation. Water acts as a chemical intercooler and lowers the intake and exhaust temperatures hugely, the drawback to the introduction of meth injection is an increase in more power. The injection of meth into the intake helps to clean the valve stems and reduces carbon build up. Therefore it is a great solution to those with a direct injection engine, which suffer badly from carbon buildup on the valves (as no fuel reaches/lubes these).

IA:
That sounds like a very sensible modification Mr.Phil.

Your improving the service life of the engine, reducing your servicing costs, and prolonging the life of the whole car, well done.
It's a tad inconvenient that the modification has a downside in the increased power, but it's a small price to pay I guess.
It's a shame more owners don't follow your lead, one I've not heard of before.

I've placed a note on your record, unfortunately, and as much as I'd like to,I can't decrease your premium, which I think you deserve, but the good news is your premium won't increase.

Is there any thing else I can help you with today Mr.Phil?

Mr.Phil:
No thank you, you've been a great help!

Just found this JB4 dyno log.

I am currently running map 2..

With meth the difference is pretty significant - 100lb/ft extra at the wheels!!
