Printers.....
So then people, which is better, an inkjet printer or a lazer printer ??
Pro's and con's I'm looking at the following : http://store.apple.com/uk/product/H7...0-e-all-in-one Or http://store.apple.com/uk/product/H7...rprint-printer The HP coming out slightly more favourable currently..... Or show me a comparable/better lazer printer, with similar spec and functionality and price !?! This is for both work and home use and must have compatibility with apple products, iPhones, iPad 2, macbookpro Tom

If you need Airprint, you're pretty limited!
If it's going to be used for work, I'd go down the Laser route everyday as everything just looks much crisper and generally better (except photos). Laser is also much faster for several sheets, and also not that expensive. Toners (for a laser printer) are generally much more expensive than cartridges, but last much longer! I have a Brother Laser Printer at home, and a HP one at work, and I must say the HP has the edge. If iOS support is essential though, I'm not sure what's available. It was very limited but haven't looked into it for a while. |

I went through this quandry a few months ago & ended up with a Canon mg6150 & got £30 cashback as well. Well impressed.
Got some ink cartridges from here (called in & picked em up as local to me) http://www.cityinkexpress.co.uk/chea...ment/multipack I got them for £35 as I bothered to call in & have the equivalent of 30 cartridges at just over a quid per cartridge. Top bloke too. Knew his stuff. Getting all this ink so cheap steered me away from a laser. |

If you want something that prints good photos the Canon Pixma MG8120 might be worth looking at; it gets a good review here:

The HP - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0065FYGE...SIN=B0065FYGE0 The Epson - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005O7N3B...SIN=B005O7N3BW

I've just bought a new wireless multi-function laser printer....HP Laserjet M175nw - £240 from Toner Giant and then got £60 cashback.
Once set up it works flawlessly with all devices inc iPad and iPhone, you can print to it from anywhere with HPs ePrint and it's got great quality compared to my previous inkjet. First page out speed is average at up to 25secs but that my only criticism so far. |

Bought a replacement printer for home use which had good reviews.
Cannon Pixma MG5250. (Inkjet) with built in scanner. I used the wireless feature to connect to my wireless internet hub. Main computer connected to hub by ethernet wire. Laptop connects wirelessly. Both seemed straightforward to setup folllowing the install guide. -(I'm using Windows 7). It prints ok and it scans ok. The only problem is it drinks ink! It doesn't get used a lot, but one or another cartridge always seems to need replacing. The printer is available for around £80 which is good value. A set of genuine cartridges cost around £46 which is a rip off! This is the official Cannon ink yield data:- Mixed text and graphics Ink tank Average yield (pages) PGI-525BK Pigment black 341 CLI-526BK Black 3005* CLI-526C Cyan 520 CLI-526M Magenta 500 CLI-526Y Yellow 515 It has printed less than 200 A4 text sheets and all the cartridges have been replaced at least once. Some have been replaced twice! Most of the printing has been for photocopies of black text. Print quality is good.... Haven't printed any photos yet. If its high volume black & white you're after, stick to a laser.

The cartridges supplied with the printer are not full of ink. These days they only put a bit in so that you can test the printer works and then you quickly have to replace them with expensive full ones. That applies to lasers as well.

I bought a colour laser printer for £199. The replacement toner cartridges were £77-89 for each colour and there were four. Sometimes it's just cheaper to buy a new printer than to get replacement toner.
As someone else said, toner cartridges are expensive. The laser printers aren't as good for photographs, either. They are fast, though. The inkjets have come a very long way since they first came out. They're almost laser quality and the inks are cheaper, too. But, they're slower. There are two types, one with a combined ink cartridge where all four colours are in one cartridge and there are printers with four to seven individual colour cartridges. The individual ones are a bit more expensive but when the yellow tank is empty you don't have to throw out the full blue with it. I use an HP. I've given up on Epson since their cartridges, ink as well as toner, are only available for a year or two after the new printers come out. Has happened to me three times.

Thanks for everyone's input, I think I'll opt for the HP inkjet, as it's seems to be a more capable all rounder and will suit my needs better
