Vishnu Single Turbo Road Testing, Walkaround, Procede Datalogs
A 10-11psi run through the gears:
A little walk-around with some revving: Datalogs: Comments: 1) I've never heard a n54 without some degree of wastegate rattle/noise. Now I know what one sounds like when it's gone. Glorious. 2) Only running mechanical wg spring pressure of 11psi. So boost is only 11psi, taper to 10psi by redline. The 1psi taper is because the boost signal is referenced at the compressor housing so it doesn't take into account intercooler pressure loss. We should have the Procede controlling boost within the next few days 3) Car is running on 91oct (no meth) and the fuel in the tank is about 6 months old. 4) Meth hardware is already installed so once we drive it around for a couple more days (initial shakedown), we'll start to turn things up a few notches. 5) From a low RPM pull, full boost by 3700rpm (with no electronic boost control aids). Between gears, boost stays strong at 6-7psi and full boost hits HARD when the next gear engages. I'd stay it holds boost between gears better than the factory turbos and a WHOLE lot better than the upgraded twins. Shift hard and fast and the torque hits so fast it's like someone rear ended you 6) Even at this low boost, the reduction in exhaust back pressure is proving to make the car less knock prone/octane dependant. I'm very curious to see how much power/boost it can safely support on pump gas. Should be a good bit more than what we see with upgraded twins. Sounds awesome. Throw it on the dyno!!!
One question though, how will any electronic boost control aids make boost response any better? The gate is held shut at all times until signaled to open at 11psi correct? If so, don't see how it can be improved upon. |

Because wastegates tend to crack just before their spring rate pressure. So bleeding off the signal until the point at which boost reaches the target, will keep it completely closed and improve spool-up slightly.

...doubt it but I'll happily be proved wrong I certainly hope final and potential numbers of this turbo will be much higher. (race gas, meth and high boost)
