Which cobb stage one to use?

Installing Cobb on my 08 e-93 right now.
There are 2 options for aggressive stage one and 2 for sport. I'm completely stock- what do you guys recommend?

Thanks

Do you mean the linear vs stock throttle? I use stock, it depends on which one you prefer. I've heard stock is better for for city driving.

i use stock throttle as well. Linear just felt......un-BMW-ish. Hard to explain but if you try both out you will notice the difference.

From their blog:

"The factory stock throttle mapping is non-linear and tends to be much more aggressive in the initial range of throttle pedal. This throttle mapping gives drivers that “kick in the pants” feel of power ramping up very quickly. The COBB Tuning linear throttle mapping keeps throttle profile linear across the entire range of the throttle pedal. Linear throttle is more appropriate for driving on a race track or for drivers that prefer a very predictable and consistent throttle pedal throughout the entire range. "

It has to with how the computer controls the throttle. On stock throttle, you get about 80% of the power with the first 50% of the throttle. On linear, 50% throttle gives you 50% power.

Once you are accustomed to stock throttle, linear makes the car feel unresponsive and slow. You have to use a lot more throttle to get the same response.

Some claim that Linear gives you much better throttle control on the track.

You're in Miami so use 93 octane gas and stage one stock throttle aggressive. You'll love it.

Reporting back.

I had installed the linear one first and was somewhat dissapointed.... but let me tell you- after putting in the other one.... wow.... went up to 15.5 lbs of boost and the car feels freaking awesome!!
Cant wait for intercooler and a charge pipe... I know the blow off doesnt do anything for performance, but would like to hear the swooosh

Skip the blow off valve and get downpipes so you can see what Stage 2+ feels like.

being your in FL, do an intercooler then downpipes. doing it quickly you can swap to stock DP's in just under an hour.

Is everyone running V301 stock? V203 seemed to have the most kick, but this weekend I may try the 301 stock.

from start to beginning there is no way anyone can do this under an hour the right way. i did mine twice because i messed up the first time and the second time i did it just over 2 hours and that was rushing. so a pro can probably do it just under 2 hours with the right tools.

now if you arent counting all the time to pull the car in and taking off the bottom and all then yeah.

either way for downpipes the dealer really cannot not do warranty work because you have downpipes. they would have to somehow show that the downpipes was the actual cause of the problem at hand...which in most cases it is not.

there is no way that downpipes could be the cause of an hpfp failure. plus all you really have to do is get to know one of the techs that is ok with the mods and work with them...only ask for him to work on your car when you bring it in for warranty work.

I've heard this repeated here a lot, and I agree that should be the case. However, I've also seen a lot of people who had their warranties voided because of mods unrelated to the problem. If you aren't buddies with your SA or dealership, I would go in stock.

well what everyone should do is just call into one of the local dealerships and talk to them and see if they are ok with mods...i dont know why dealerships would not take work from modded cars.

if they can just do the work then whats the big deal really? because they get paid from bmw back anyway...so i would think from a business stand point if there really isnt any real signs of wear just replace and get reimbursed lol.

The dealership does not void the warranty, BMW does, and then maybe not immediately. For example, you go in for an oil change, dealer says nothing, scans ECU or flags forbidden item on a check list (say DP's), you hear nothing for a year. Then you come in for a warranty claim, BMW reviews files, decides not to pay due to evidence of mods flagged from a year ago.

Plus I would not dismiss a dealership saying "we're OK with mods" to get your business now and then tattling on you to BMWNA for brownie points. You'd never know until you needed to. For example mods won't prevent you from getting routine maintenance (say, oil change) under warranty, or other non-engine stuff done.

Hell I have heard there is one notorious local dealership that scans these boards to identify cars with mods specifically to deny warranty claims.
