Buying a 335i, should I be worried about the HPFP being replaced7
seller says his HPFP were replaced three times while the car was under warranty even though there were no issues. The warranty is over now. That just strikes me as odd, I would imagine the dealership only replacing if needed and if they were doing it preventatively, three times?
Even though they're covered for 10 years, I'm still concerned. Last edited by tracerit; 02-13-2012 at 04:35 PM.. |

maybe i have this misconception about dealers being lazy and only replacing parts when they're broken. why fix if it's not broken (yet haha).

No worries here. HPFPs were "recalled" for replacement along with updated software by BMW NA, it was not a dealer by dealer decision to do so.. it's covered under warranty so dealers are reimbursed for parts + labor. And again you have an extended 10 year warranty for peace of mind. I had my fuel pump replaced and requested that they not update my software but was informed that BMW NA required new software with HPFP replacements since 2011, the new software apparently primes the pump before startup or something like that..

Dont sweat it, Honestly if i found an n54 with 5 HPFP replacements i wouldnt really care as the lattest HPFP's have been treating everyone pretty good. Plus its like $500-600 installed depending where you go to replace it.

All cars are covered by BMW to 120K miles. I am on the forth one here. It seems to have finally done the trick as far as I can tell. Other than inconvenience I don't see any other worry about the HPFP.

Like Vase30, I had a 4th one put in about a year ago (May) with no issues since, including a fair amount of track time and a tune. It appears the latest one is holding up much better without as many failures.
