Is half in sufficient???

Just saw a lady get a parking ticket because her rear wheels weren't quite in the allocated parking space and thought it was a little harsh.

I asked the traffic warden whether she'd been parked there too long or was it because her wheels weren't in the space; he confirmed that it was because her car wasn't 100% in the space. I didn't ask whether it was 100% of wheels or 100% of physical car; wish I had .

I've always had an 'unofficial' rule that, if half of my car was in the space, then that would be OK - obviously not .

I felt a little sorry for this lady, her car was virtually in the space (not like my 50% rule ), her rear wheels were just out and obviously the boot overhang (Mondeo) but she still got a ticket.

When I came out of the shop I'd nipped into, parked behind where this lady had been, was a Range Rover, 100% on the double-yellows and also mounted on the curb - I bet they get away with it.

Anyway, anyone with a misguided rule like mine, beware .

While parking outside the Marsden in London last year. My cars wheels were in the zone but the bodywork overhung by about a foot. I went and asked one of the Gestapo if it was ok?. Too which he said yes, it's the wheels they're concerned with. So I said thanks you Cock an went on my way.
There has been a lot of this wheels over the line mentioned on the TV lately.

If you park with the wheels outside the box, but then someone steals your wheels, what happens then?

I was always under the impression the it's where the wheels are and both front and rears have to be inside the lines. Overhang of front and rear bumpersr is OK. Of course, I could be totally wrong

One of my friend works for council and he confirmed what you said. If your wheel is 50% or more over the line then they can issue you ticket. But loosers take the photos in a way that they always give illusion of wheels being >50% over the line.
By all means always challenge the tickets if your wheels are even 50% on the markings.

What will you do if they clamp your car and tell you that towing truck is on the way, and ask you to pay in excess of 400 pounds.
You call the police and police tells you, its civil matter, you guys sort it out.
There have been numerous footages on bbc watchdog. Thats a loop hole and those companies know how to make money out of it.
Every two months they chang their directors, and they keep changing the address of companies.
You take them to small claim court, win, and still cant recover the money as they dont show any assets.

Its sad, but a bitter reality.

my understanding is if the contact point of the tyre is inside the line you are legal:same with no part of the tyre touching a double yellow

always appeal a parking ticket as most signs road marking are illegal: Westminster will write off a ticket rather then contest a appeal as that costs them more money than they will receive for the ticket, because even if you lose you can still pay at the reduced rate..but you won't win if parked on double yellows on Haymarket etc

Down my street you can park free with two wheels on the pavement becuase the road is narrow. There are white lines on the pavement to mark that you can do this.

Between my drive way and my neighbour's there is a stretch of pavement long enough for two cars to park.

I came home one day to find a car had parked on the pavement outside my neighbour's house but not quite far enough to allow me to park behind and to be totally in the white line.

So, I ended up with my rear wheels over the line slightly. Bare in mind that there were no parking spaces behind me becuase it was my own driveway there.

Anyway, £40 fine. :-( The stupid thing was, if I'd not had two wheels on the pavement but had Instead been totally on the road, possibly causing an obstruction, I'd not have got the ticket!
