E61 M5...
Hi Guys,
A few of you know my old man bought an E61 M5 last year. Well he is over 6 months in and loves it, I have driven it quite a lot (especially when he first got it) and have to say i fell in love instantly It goes like stink and sounds IMMENSE They only made like 1000 of these touring versions so it is pretty rare. (rarer than a Porsche Carrera GT) Its COMPLETELY fully loaded and when he bought it only had 20k on the clock. So when I pop over to visit my parents, his driveway looks the dogs danglies with the M5 and then my M3 parked outside. When he pops over mine, he can have the driveway

But its not that much every month. I think if you love a car you can justify the cost that way.

Has he just dropped a dearly departed off at that church? Maybe moonlighting as a funeral director to cover the fuel bill
Looks amazing! Big fast estates do it for me every time. |

Shame you can't fit a towbar to these.
I could be tempted . . . . . . Can you imagine flooring it with a caravan on the back - you'd just be left with an A-frame, with the caravan body lying on the ground. Mmmmmm |

BMW told my old man you can fit a tow bar to them. He enquired and it was like £700 odd quid and it wasn't for towing a caravan but a trailer.

M5 iirc isn't type approved for towing. Anyone fitting a 'bar to a non-approved vehicle is a bit dodgy...

v.nice. These are such a performance car bargain of the century.
Is it carbon black - looks the same colour as our 5er (we just need the other 6 cylinders and powwwwweeer ) ?

How do these handle compared to a saloon version?
I have never driven any form of estate car in my life (apart from a few laps on track at a Mercedes event) Looks very nice by the way! |

That looks awesome mate.
I do wish they had made the M5 touring available with a standard auto 'box, I would have had one myself then. Don't get me wrong I love the SMG 'box, had it in both M3's, but just felt the M5 Touring would have suited a regular auto or even better a DCT type gearbox. |

Its definitely not Carbon Black, My old man had a brand new 535d tourer in 2005 which was Carbon Black which is bluey on closer inspection. I have a feeling the M5 is Sapphire Black.

These are mental cars but I just couldn't put up with the SMG gearbox around town - too clunky for my liking.....but in a straight line its a total weapon of a car.
I have only driven the estate version and like Carl says, totally planted on the road - can't imagine the saloon drives much differently? You can often feel the extra weight high up on estate cars but you certainly can't with the M5. The one I drove was Indi blue which didn't really suit the estate IMO, I much prefer it in metallic black. |

Well, it looks immense, would love a go one, espcially now as the new M5 is 'just' a V8
