HELP: Engine fan on after short drive

Hey guys,

I just got done taking out the CAI and placing in the stock airbox [which required me to remove the cabin filters and the loom support under the cabin filters], then took the car out to go get something to eat locally. So we didn't drive too far. In fact the oil temps barely started to move when we parked. After an hour or so we drive back and the car's oil temps are just starting to get warmer when we pull into the garage and here the loud engine fan blowing hard. I never heard the fan on that loud with the temp being in low 40's tonight. Any ideas? Is it the water pump? or a sensor issue?

Inside the garage the temps were in the low 60's when I pulled in btw.

if it is the water pump, then will the fan stay on no matter how cold it is outside?

mine stayed on and it was 20 outside
when I turned the car off it stayed on for a while then went off
But it is VERY loud then its water pump fan

Do you have any tunes on your car? For instance the JB4 new firmware has a "Max Cool Mode". When it is enabled, the fan and water pump both turn on when the engine temperature reaches a certain degree. It's not set to a high temperature because I turned it on to see how it works and I barely went to the grocery store which is across the street and sure enough it turned on..my oil temp gauge was pegged all the way at 160 or so lol. You might have enabled it without knowing...but if you don't have a tune then it's exactly what the OP said.. Or it might be a thermostate and turns it on because it can't read the temperature.

no tune. could I have damaged something while switching out the intake and putting in the stock air box?

update:

Took it to the dealer this morning and they said "failed water pump." They gave me a loaner and said we will see you Monday.. Thanks for the quick responses guys.

FYI my car has 70k miles.

water pump never changed?

Seems like we are hearing alot of water pumps failing lately... Just last week, mines failed and my car was overheating. Replaced water pump and radiator under extended warranty. Car has 86k miles....

Never. 2 Fuel pumps, but never a water pump. The dealer is about 15 minutes away from my house and the loud fan was on the entire time..

Wow. Thank goodness for extended warranty. All I have to pay $50 for deductible.
