Hi Everyone from Hong Kong

Hello everyone!

I'm Godwin1210 and I'm a new guy here! Bought a 523i F10 back in August, have driven 4000km so far.

Some people here might have known me before as I always stick around in HK Discuss Forum.

Planning to do some mods in the future, will probably change to H&R lowering springs and BMW performance spoiler.

Nice to meet you all!

I live in hk island, and roads at my place are so crappy that sometime I can't stand it even with the original suspension. If I have changed to 19" or even 20" rims I'm afraid it will just make things even worse.

And mine is just a not very powerful 523i, big tires might completely kill the already not very responsive and powerful acceleration.

Although I have to admit that it looks very very nice with larger rims.

Yeah well, the curvy roads at the south side you will feel the improved handling with larger wheels and better tyres

But you mentioned that you want to swap springs too... anyways some can live with it, I for one can't live with the original wheels. I swap it the very next day after I pick up my car.

I don't know what's with all the concern about the lack of power and stuff. I mean who you try to outrun with a 523i. I have driven 3 generation of 523i and this is the fastest of them all even though it's much heavier thanks to the 8 speed gear box.

For me I m ok with it and I feel the car is not lacking in power at all and is good enough for everyday use. As long as i can outrun buses, minibuses and taxi etc... I m quite ok When I see a Ferrari, I wouldn't think of gunning it at the light with them, I don't like to be the first of the fast car bunch anyways, just my $0.02

Many of us live in island side too including me. Talk about harsh road I don't think you got more harsher than where I drive to sometimes, construction site I am talking about.

The stock RFT is harsh enough, changing to regular tires would be somewhat the same. Go for 19" if you are worry. Larger wheels would sacrifice performance and you are right. But the stock wheels are so heavy, if you get light weight aftermarket wheels actually will improve your performance.

Have fun.

Haha, I am more aggressive. Sometimes I race with VW golf and alike and I usually wins.

One time I was tailgating a C63, he can't loose me. May be he was given me a break.

I just tailgated a crazy cayenne turbo the other night, too Not so crazy but way past speed limits Leave the details out

Speeds that makes me uneasy even with my 9500ix

One thing for sure, my wheels are well balanced and 40lbs pressures for all wheels is probably perfect for my setup. No vibration at any speed!

I think it will be a close call for me against a VW, I may lose to GTIs but shaking is another thing. A porsche try to shake me once but couldn't, and I didn't even press hard or go over 4000 rpm as I am still running in, is impossible to shake someone in with the short winding roads.

Those Cayenne is huge and need to brake for corner, is no match for a sedans... I don't know what those people driving an SUV is thinking, do they really think they have a chance on curve roads against sedans?

For me it was a Cayenne S, on my old E60. I was just driving along at speed limit approaching Cheung Ching tunnel and this crazy Cayenne slap me right in my face. So I tailgate him in the tunnel for awhile before the speed trap then before leaving the tunnel i build up some speed and pass him when exiting the tunnel. Kinda funny that I caught him off guard as he think I was slowing down in the tunnel but I was actually building up speed

He tried catching up as I heard him accelerating pretty hard but he doesn't have a chance on the bends

+1 indeed. My previous 17" RFT were a worse ride than my present 20" non-RFTs! Even my wife commented how smoother the ride became.

So I'm actually thinking whether I should change the springs or not......but I guess I will go for it at the end cus I want the car looks better, it now looks kinda weird actually for me, haha

Really? I don't know why but I started to feel the 523i lacks of power and especially lacks of low-end torque, maybe because I drive kinda aggressive? Everytime I try to accelerate at Cotton-tree Road, Conduit Road and Old Peak Road I can feel is heavy and trying so hard to accelerate. I drove a Lexus RX300 before and probably that's the reason why I'm having this feeling.

For those who replaced their RFT, did you accomodate a spare tyre then?

I'm on non-RFT tires... with no spare. I figure with BMW roadside assistance still in effect for another 2 years or so, I'll just use that since even if I had a spare, it's a bit messy to change..... LOL

Well, I did try to find a spare (one of those compact ones) but all I see are those in the USA for sale. BMW Taiwan wants US$1500 to sell me one.....

To gun it at a ferrari you need the 3.0 NA 528 haha just kidding ..
You must really love that 2.5 6cyl I6, stick with it for 3 generation!
agreed.. enough power already .. can step on it maximum and not worry.. i never had that worry before
