First AutoX in Z4 3.0

Go fast mods are limited. KW Var 2. Mid stiff in the rear one click to stiff from mid in the front. Lowered conservatively.

This was a tight course on a small lot. Never hit the rev limiter in first or second. Best run was a shift into second at the earliest opportunity and a smooth fast lap focused on the next turn staying in second gear the whole way. The car did become unsettled in first coming out of tight turns. Was a little more fun stepping out in first but not as fast. :0

Most basic Impression was...

Balanced.

The car was easy to drive relatively fast and was always composed even when sideways a bit. With street tires (Hankook V12s) I never felt like I was going to run way out of line anywhere. I ran consistently in top quarter after I got used to the rwd. I was happy with that first time out. My best run was one of the fastest in my class.

Previous toy car was a 4wd heavily modified beast that 'drove itself' around the track. This is different and more fun.

Nice, glad you had fun.

Any video of those runs?

Good job on being at the sharp end of your group. Was this an SCCA event, curious as to where they classed you with the coilovers.

Generally its a good idea to get out of 1st asap, large throttle adjustments in 1st cause big weight transfers. If you work on your throttle modulation it can be an advantage. But IMHO grab 2nd asap.

I assume you enjoyed playing with TC On Vs. Off & Sport mode.

This was a Novice School Day and there was a large range of cars present. Every sort of Miata of course from boosted Miatas on slicks to older stock ones, a couple S2000s, M3s new and otherwise, a 135, my wife in her GTI (and she was faster than me until the last runs), and a full on Toyota rally car.

I needed seat time in this car. I had played around in a very non-competitive way in my old WRX but I was never competitive in my class back then. Not the car's fault!

I believe my car will fall into STR.

I ran with traction control "off".

Second gear was much smoother and I will go there from now on.

Turn off traction control as soon as you can. Learn to drive with it off, the better you will be.

Listen to the instructors, have fun!
