Delayed Production Date

I placed the order for my 328i on February 6, 2012. It has not yet been produced and no "production date" has been set. I have ordered around 11 different BMWs in my life and have never experienced a delay in production such as this.

Is anyone aware of problems in the factory which may be causing such a delay?

Were you given a production date prior to production?

There are long waiting lists for the F30 and not all production is online yet.
Many markets have not even gotten their dealer launch cars yet, never mind customer cars.

Only 2 of the F30 factories are online so far
Until last week it was only 1
Certain colors only started last week at the South African factory and Munich will only get them from March.
Other options can also delay production.

The waiting list for the F30 is many months in many markets
I waited 4 Months for my E90 LCI to go into production from order.

Your dealer will have been given specific production slots and should know when one of their slots will be available for your car

i ordered my 335i on 2/18 and got a production number, but no updates either since then.

dude, if i have to wait 4 months then i might as well wait for the msport, which was what i was waiting for originally. partly due to my current lease ending in may.

As soon as I received my #, I also received the estimated production date. Don't they have an estimate when you receive a number?

My car was ordered February 3, production started the 7th and finished the 15th and it is currently on board of a vessel (left Bremerhafen last Saturday, 02/25) to the West coast. Not saying you're wrong, just stating my own situation here

There appears to be huge variation. It took me three weeks to start from order and another week to build. It's sat almost two weeks since then and it's unclear if I am on the ship that left the 25th (Tortugas). Good luck.

Thats just means your dealer had a unsold production slot about to go into production and could still change the spec to yours or it already was your spec.

Many dealers are booked up for a long time ahead with no open slots

You were lucky

And as more countries launch the F30 less slots for the USA will be available

Build actually only takes 48Hours, with built in holds.
Tracking system makes it seem longer.

Maybe to give people the impression that build quality is higher than other manufacturers... 'Oh look, my car takes a week to be built and brand x only 2 days'.

You're probably right, I do know he was looking on a list and told me there might still be a February slot left open (I wouldn't be surprised he actually kept it open for me as he knew I was going to get one since somewhere in November, I just wanted to drive in it before actually ordering).

Hopefully more slots open soon for those waiting right now, and especially before the m-sport comes out as I can imagine many people wanting one of that one too (my wife maybe as well).

I was lucky enough to order a 328i at the end of January and was told the car will be here in April. I went to the dealer on launch day and drive the 328i and the 335i. I liked the power on the 335i and for the options I was getting, the price difference was only going to be about 3k. So I decided to back out of my ordered and ordered a 335i on 2/11 with a new delivery date of May.

On 2/13 I get a call saying that they were able to use one of their allocation for me and my car was getting built the last week of Feb or first week of March. Well, to my surprise production started on 2/14 and ended on 2/23. The beast is sitting in Munich waiting for a "carrier"... Hopefully it gets picked up tomorrow and makes it to W&W's BESS. If everything goes right I'll be picking up the car 3/20ish!!!

The wait is long, but well worth it!!!
