Btw, the next picture is of a different but similar ship as the Tortugas, it gives a nice visual of how the ships are loaded

I wish the Rusty King was as fast as the Tortugas, our voyage takes an extra 2 days!

Welcome all
So, our carrier left Zeebrugge earlier today, at 2:36PM UTC, for Southampton, UK. Our ETA is to arrive there in about 3.5 hrs, so I figure we will be spending part of the night outside the port (unless they allow us to sail in during the night but I kind of doubt that). At least we're right on schedule It seems to be pretty busy right now in the English Channel.. But thankfully there is a setting to make everyone else magically disappear And here's an even better overview: The air temperature is currently between 7.5 and 9 Celsius (abt 45-50F), and it seems the water temperature is about the same. 2 hours after we arrive, it will be high tide, which lasts until about 9 AM. There is about 5 NM visibility and there is currently a pretty strong headwind (which will get less by the time we get closer to port). The waves are about 1 meter high (about 3 feet), which is nothing to what we currently see in Hawaii (8 feet currently but a couple of weeks ago up to 20). And this concludes your current conditions. Btw, for those wondering if I have nothing better to do: I guess I do but I don't really feel like it at the moment

So... about my earlier s**t-talking about how the Asian King > Tortugas... turns out.... I think I'm actually on the Tortugas. Checking with my CA now for confirmation, but MyBMW says I'm en route so it's gotta be the Turtles.
Anyway, GJ Svache on the real time updates. Keep 'em comin. *Update*: Just got confirmation from my CA that my car is indeed on The Tortugas. Wahoo! Glad to be aboard. *blasts ship horn* Last edited by bl@ster; 02-28-2012 at 07:42 PM.. |

Woah, crazy story bro. Hope that Cap'n got a raise. I swear, if those infernal Somali pirates take my F30 hostage, there will be hell to pay. I'm sure the route is out of their sphere of influence though. Seems like modern cargo ships who sail around Africa need a gunner.

As far as raises go, they all should get a raise imo, some of them like the filipinos get way underpaid (if I have to believe the article I mentioned a couple of posts above).

Soo here's another status update as we arrived in Southampton at around 5:04 AM CET. It is mostly cloudy outside and there is a temperature of about 48°F. The wind is coming from the South to South-West at 4 mph, there is a 20% chance of rain and the humidity is 93%. I hope you all enjoy your stay here and if you decide to leave the ship, please don't wander too far off as we will be leaving a later today at around 8 PM CET for the big crossing towards Manzanillo, Panama.
Our entrance into the port Moored in the port And using our super-special-super-secret-satellite, here's a close-up of our ship from above..

Thanks =) I'm sure that the rust bucket King will get an exiting thread as well And who knows, there might be another thread coming for your ship when yours is being shipped =) When/where do you leave your car after the ED?

am Planning on leaving my car on the 25th of April from the capital of France... so end of April would be my guess for its shipping and boat transport toward the US.
Add to that 7 weeks... so July 1st would be my re-delivery at the local dealership... Is that a realistic schedule?
