Downgrading 2007 335xi to 17" wheels

Hello All,

I currently have a 2007 335xi sports package that came with these wheels:

Type 162 (Front: 18x8 ET34 225/40 R18) (Rear: 18x8.5 ET37 255/35 R18)

I want to downgrade to 17x8 wheels, what tire sizes should I put on them? Should I keep the tire sizes staggered? Should I keep the wheel sizes staggered also (Front 17x8, Rear 17x8.5)?

I have a base 2006 330i non-sport and the factory setup is 17x8 with 225x45 at all corners. Type 159. Non-staggered.
Plan to add a summer setup soon with staggered 18s.

Why are you going to 17s?

The most common reason for minus sizing is for winter use. If not for winter use, then it is typically done for a softer ride and to help with wheel durability in areas with rough roads.

Use 225/45R17 for 17X8 wheels. I personally would not stagger then so that you can rotate the tires for longer wear, have more tire choice options, and have a lower price point.

Gary is right, I am downsizing mainly because of wheel durability. Thankfully I had purchased tire insurance from BMW when I first purchased my car and its saved me a boat load of money (i've replace over 15 tires since owning the car mainly due to bubbles in the sidewall), but my insurance is expiring this year and I don't want to be paying the costs of replacing RFTs on my own. In addition, my two rear tires are worn so thin that my insurance will not cover them anymore so I have to pay ~800 to replace the two, so my thought was to not replace them at all and put that money towards 4 new wheels/tires that can handle the rough roads in NY/Long Island.

Gary, I ordered this setup for my car from Tirerack.com. The rep I spoke too said it would fit without issue, if you have some time could you review and just confirm that I will not have any issues with this? Thanks.

Wheel:
Elbrus I08
Size: 17x8
Offset: +30mm
Backspacing: 5.66"
Bolt Pattern: 5-120

Tire:
Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position
Size: 225/45R17

Thanks!

WorkJoe, please report on the wheels, if you are happy or unhappy. They look pretty and are 17, which is a rare combination, but it is hard to get some objective reviews on this brand.
