What to do in Memphis Tennessee?
Anyone in the Memphis, TN area can give me a few places of interest near or around
The Peabody Memphis 149 Union Ave Memphis TN 38103 I will be in that location around mid Oct 2007. Thanks for any suggestions on possible places of interest for tourists

Well you'll already be downtown so if you just walk around there's a good deal of music/food joints, can't miss 'em. Also you have got to try out some BBQ places; Rendevous is pretty good. Also try Neely's. Some good malls are Wolfchase and Carriage Crossing (open-air mall) if you wanna shop some. Hope i've been somewhat helpful.

Drive south about 30 minutes to Tunica. Vega-ssippi.
In all seriousness there are some great casinos there. I recommend either The Grand or The Horseshoe. Downtown Memphis has gotten a pretty substantial face lift in the last 5 years or so. Beale St. is a blast and close to the Peabody. I second the recommendation for The Rendevous ... some of the best dry ribs you will ever have. |

Gibson is a good place to check. The tour there is fantastic.
Definitely spend some time just hanging out around Beale, you will be amazed at the music you will find in some places. Definitely jump in to one of the carriage rides downtown. There isn't a better way to get a feel for that historic part of the city and get the history. See if there are any plays / shows at the Orpheum (try ticketmaster I guess) while you are there, fantastic place to see one. Oh head down to mud island and check out the river. When you step back and really look at it, it is quite impressive. Sadly none of the sports have much going on right now. Oh and my recommendation on barbeque is to try Central Barbeque, it is on Central near the East Parkway intersection, you won't be sorry.
