C63 Estate opinions please - bought, pics added
Ever since hearing the Merc 6.3 engine I've wanted one and now have an itch for a C63 Estate. Test driving a couple tomorrow. One in silver and one in black. What's peoples views and anything I should be aware of. I know it's a BMW forum but seen a few Merc owners here. Bored with the diesel and want more power so this seemed logical as I need an estate.

Was a thought and put me off an M5 Touring TBH but I don't do a lot of miles and rarely get over 30mpg from the 330d as it is so was thinking it wouldn't be too bad

It will be an awesome machine. Get a black one!!! (the C63)
My old man has a M5 touring and they are rare as rocking horse poo. He loves it & so do I. There is something special about fast estates. I loved the B5 RS4 avant when it came out!! I think you will only get 16-20mpg though!

If you drive it anywhere near its potential you won't get near a 20mpg average. Mine, which includes got a lot of motorway schlepping is sat at 16.9mpg average over the last 20k miles. If you're really shoving along (on your own, country lanes etc) expect circa 12.
Make sure the car you buy has the limited slip diff option - they sPend too much time lighting one wheel up, otherwise.

I would suggest having a petrol tanker on permanent tow,but I guess the extra weight and unsympathetic aerodynamics of the tanker would only exacerbate the unquenchable thirst of the car! Your fuel card must need replacing mthly with the wear and tear |

I had a drive in one (saloon) around the MBW track at Brooklands.
While I can't deny that they sound absolutely fucking lovely, I found it a bit boring (too smooth and sanitised for my liking). Having said that, I was only in it for a few laps, so didn't get a really good feel for it, but first impressons count. I've seen what Si's posted about tyres and MPG, so that's put me off too. When I first heard one (probably Andrew's when we went carting near Cambridge), I thought 'gotta have one', now I probably wouldn't.

My thoughts are that if you're only occassionally getting above 30mpg in a 330d your mpg in an AMG will be fookin dire. I mean, I drove my 330d (E90) like I stole it permanently, and managed an average of 32mpg, no chance I'd consider an AMG with my heavy right foot as the mpg would be eye-watering and take away the pleasure of it. I'd be very careful before jumping in and think about the running costs.
I currently average 18.?mpg now and even with my low mileage does start to grate after a while.

Depends on the age of the car but if it has suede on the sides of the steering wheel then I think that means its got the performance pack which includes the LSD.
Probably need to confirm this though. All Andrews cars had the LSD and suede steering wheel sides, I remember he used to moan that the suede was wearing out, must have had a few replaced under warranty. I think he just drove to fast and held on too tight LOL |
