DVD playback...
I just stumbled on this here: http://dvdinmotion.com/ and was wondering if anyone thought it would work on a US spec car?
They don't specify if it is possible on a US spec car but they do list the F30 under 'supported cars'... Thoughts?

I've seen this recently as well. Looks
Like a great idea but seems like too much of a distraction. I believe the cars are capable of playing DVDs at standstill but not while in motion. The above software disables that and makes it possible. Sounds like too much tempation to watch films in motion for my taste. I know some other members may feel differently. |

I agree it may be distracting but I have been able to watch DVD's while in motion before and in the end I noticed I actually hardly watched it and was more busy on what's happening on the road. Fellow passengers, however, liked the fact that there was something else they could see besides traffic and that's a bit why I'm wondering if this would work for the F30

Well, that's one thing I wonder about, if it is, then I believe this unlocker might work as well. Kind of curious to find out but don't want to waste money if it doesn't xD

All 2012 BMW models are supported. The software works on cars made for all world regions including Europe, United States, Japan, Korea, Australia and many more.

I was just about to ask this. Is the NAV necessary?

According to the website it doesn't matter if you have navigation or not, they say the requirement is DVD playback

So that begs the question: Does the standard screen have DVD playback? haha sorry, don't have my baby yet.

I thought DVD playback was dependant on the 6-changer CD/DVD player in the boot (aka trunk), unless of course the head unit has DVD capability in which case I doubt the screen size matters.
Presumably if someone can get a DVD to work from the head unit (while the car is stationary) we could be on to something! |

Incidentally, page 198 of the owner's manual implies that DVDs should be playable from the standard head unit.
Of course the manual covers all features regardless of whether they are optional or not so I am not 100% sure that you can play a DVD in a 'non-NAV' head unit with 6.5 inch screen. Hopefully someone can test this for us? |
