Most integrated/best phone
Well, i've tried my Galaxy Nexus and although I get bluetooth streaming, it only allows me to control skipping to the next track or previous one.
I then tried an iPhone 3GS and it's about the same. I really want to listen to podcasts and have the track names and the ability to pause/resume from the steering wheel....is there a phone that integrated better than the above for music/podcasts or is the above the best I can hope for? |

You need the app integration. One you have that you can do all of the above (with an Iphone)

The most integrated phone is the iPhone not becauce of preferance. But becuase it true. Most devs develop apps for the iPhone first because one.
FRAGMENTATION!!!!!!!!! It's a big problem example android may have 300 Devices on the market different hardware its makes it a problem because every manufacture uses a custom version of Android. ie.. htc sence, motoblur, touchwiz etc... So they would have to create a universal app for all the Phones instead of making a high quality program that talored to 2 iPhone devices the support is less and plus most owners of high end cars statistically will get an iPhone over android, blackberry. Conclusion: It's all about quality of apps and the ability to create a higher experience of the end user without having to worry about compatibility issues |

The only prob with the iPhone is that the Office functions don't work "out of the box" with the BMW interface. There's still no SMS functionality with the iPhone even with the BMW Apps...yet.

Check the compatibility website http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/nav...=EU&country=UK
The nexus is not listed as Bluetooth Audio compatible and the iphone 3GS has certain functions not compatible.

Bluetooth functionality outside of BMW Apps, isn't near the level you require. The only way I can assert the kind of control you are looking for via the phone/Bluetooth connection is to actually hold the phone and control it from there. Defeats the whole purpose.
I was really surprised and disappointed by the Bluetooth integration that came with the $650 dollar BMW Assist/Enhanced bluetooth option. It's barely adequate. I've taken to using my iPod Nano. I keep it in the armrest and it's always hooked up. Control via iDrive is much much better and the sound quality is better too. I just pull it out and synch it to my computer once a week. Works out well because it's the iPod I use at the gym, so I dont have to worry about keeping it charged. Unhook when I get to the Gym. Reconnect when I'm done. I doubt I would have paid the extra $650 for that option had I realized how limited it is. "enhanced"...um not really! $100 dollar iPod and the wired connection is a way better way to go. |

I'm guessing you looked up the Samsung Nexus S instead of the Galaxy Nexus? The Galaxy Nexus (the one the OP has) is actually Bluetooth Audio compatible, that phone is not listed under your link (probably doesn't get sold in the UK?) but is listed under the USA providers. However, while it does play audio over Bluetooth, it is impossible to skip to control that phone from the iDrive besides play and pause

After researching what this car can do through BMW apps and BMW assist I got rid of my superior Nexus and got an iPhone 4s. I hope BMW gets android compatible sometime in the near future.

Yeh but I doubt it was up to QNX. I'm sure BMW was the one who said to build for this device with the help of some Steve Jobs influence

It looks like the Blackberry devices are the most integrated to the office functions. I can't bring myself to go that backwards in technology so i'll survive with an iDevice.

I know your pain.. I love Android and dislike Apple for so many reasons but, like you, I feel forced to get an iPhone as well.. I'll wait until the iPhone 5 gets released, though, hopefully that one will have 4G

I believe BMW unfortunately is largely in bed with Apple when it comes to smartphone integration at present.
