Exclamation Engine Malfunction!!

So, yesterday I was driving on the freeway and right when I pressed down hard on my gas pedal (to accelerate) my car got this error on the dash and I was limited to about 2,200 rpm!! WTF is going on? Is this a boost leak, limp mode? What is it. I waited unti the car's temp was at the cold start temp of 160 F but still that error was there! I looked at the car manual and it said that there was something wrong with the engine functioning and that it wasn't opperating how it should and therefore engine power had to be kept at a minimum.

Performanc Mods: Air Scoops, Down pipes, Exhaust, JB4.

I also run on Map 2 all the time as a daily driver. Idk if that is the reason or not but I figured I would comment on that. I believe I have the neccessary mods to run it at Map 2. Anyways, WTF is going on here??

How do I figure out the codes? Also, if anything I was posting to see if another member had similar issues so that I could get an idea of what was wrong.

Limp mode is limp mode. We have all had it for different reasons.

Read the instructions for the JB4. It reads codes.

Same thing happen to me on both tunes (JB4 and Procede).
If you have auto-clear your won't know the code when you hook up laptop. Best thing to do is shut down car for 2 minutes and restart again and drive again.

what octane gas are you running? Also read the DME codes via JB4 under user settings.

Restart the car the limp mode is gone. Once you go wide open throttle, it will most probably come back. You need to read the codes with a serail to usb cable and connect to your laptop, or even in dash code reading with the jb4.

I might have had the same issue with you. It could be your in tank fuel pump. My car would act normal and then I would stomp on it in 6th gear and it would go into limp mode and idle like a 69 camaro. Go to a kragen and get an obd2 reader and get the codes. Im sure it is a pump issue if it went like that after you step'd down on the throttle.

Do you have the USB cable attached with your JB4? How long have you had your JB4 or when did you purchase it? Depending on what firmware your JB4 is set to you might need to update it which requires you to have the USB cable. Its like 25 bucks or something man and is definently well worth it! You can click on settings tab with your JB4 interface and there is a box that says read DME codes. All you do is click on the read DME codes. Whatever codes you have, right the codes down and click delete all codes. After that see if the problem comes back and if not your good but if they do then you need to fix what the codes are. Its easy once you get use to it dont worry anything and everything can be fixed

Yup! That's exactly what that is bro! It is cool now (1 day later) but when I press down hard on the throttle it will have that error again. I'm assuming limp mode, but not sure exactly the cause. I wouldn't be suprised if it was actually the fuel pump. I've had that shit replaced 3 times already!

Ok that makes me feel a little better. Should I just put it on map 0, delete all the codes and take to dealer?

....engine one is out....Get out of there dammit! Eject!...Eject!!

No worries OP its just the warning light. On the good side the ECU just went into failsafe mode. Hopefully its just a misfire code

thanks man. So can you elaborate on the failsafe mode? And what's a misfire code?

the "limp" mode switches off the boost control. No boost. You have to read the codes otherwise nobody can help...

Here is BMS' form response to getting a "reduced power mode":

Any time you get check engine light (yellow half engine or reduced power indicator) or service engine soon light (orange SES) the first step is to read the codes. With a JB4 installed there are two methods. The easiest method for beginners is to connect the laptop interface and use the "read codes" button under settings. This will give a full listing along with descriptions. Alternatively for more advanced users or if a laptop isn't available you may use the in dash reading on menu 1 option 1. Directions for that method are here: http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showpo...98&postcount=1

If a JB4 is not installed you can also use a BT or CT tool to do the scan. Once you have the exact code details email those in for advice.

I wouldn't be running map 2 on 91 octance unless you are logging to make sure everything looks ok, and from the sound of it I'm sure you have no clue how to log. I'd switch to map 5 (autotuning map) or even back it down to map 1.

Read up on the JB4 instructions on code reading and make sure you turn off the "auto-clear" function.

Yup, I had the same symptoms and apparently after a couple of the software updates the I-drive will throw a fuel pump error code when you look at the "check controls" menu.

Ok. So I turned on my car just right now. It started revving high and low by itself!! I wasn't pressing down the throttle. Also my car was shaking and making very loud sounds (kin of like a winding sound). Then the half engine light came on again, followed by the yellow service engine soon light. I turned the car off, turned it on again and it did the same thing!! I'm going to try and see if I can hook the cable up to the laptop and read the code. But until I do. Wtf is this??????? And has anyone encounter ed anything like this???
