Vishnu Single Turbo Ride-along

As you know, FFTEC/Vishnu had an open-house/bbq this afternoon to showcase the single turbo 335i. The bbq itself was great: excellent food, nice music, perfect weather and friendly people. But of course you didn't click this thread to read about that.

All I can say is holy [expletive]. Everything about it is great - the sound, the response and the raw power. I wasn't sure what to expect launching at lower speeds, since you'd think it would be hard not to spin the wheels, but it was intense. Just non-stop back of the seat pulling from start to finish. The best part was when he let off and I realized how far back into the seat I was, because the acceleration doesn't let up - it's like someone pushing on your shoulders the entire time.

It was ridiculously smooth, too. You've seen the dynos, and it matches up. The torque is flat at ~470 after 4k and power is a perfect climb all the way up to redline. The way it churns it out is pretty much perfect in my opinion. While I obviously didn't drive it, it felt like a very street drivable car. Just a very very fast one. Oh, and I almost forgot - it was nearly 90 degrees today in Hayward, and it accelerated like a bullet every single time. We probably did half a dozen rolling starts and it never let up.

The only bad thing about doing this ride-along is that it spoils you. It pretty much sells itself. Everyone in the Bay Area should consider themselves some of the luckiest 335i owners, because if you're serious about power, this is the way to go. If you're not in the area, it's still the way to go - you just have to get it here

I want to thank Shiv for being kind enough to give me a ride. I want to thank everyone at FFTEC for having the BBQ and for the incredible work they are doing on our platform. Thanks to Sean for the tour of the shop, they have top notch fabrication going on there. And it was great seeing some familiar faces and new ones as well.

^^^ That's pretty much how I felt, and had to refrain from making myself look silly. If he knew how much I wanted it, there would be no room for negotiating

Agreed.

Shiv, if you're listening, hurry up and sell me the required parts before I pull the trigger on a set of RB Turbos.

If you're already going a turbo build route, absolutely wait for Shiv to help you out. You don't want to spend the money it takes for that knowing there's ~150-200hp more to be had.

Wow, It's decided. The next time I'm in California, I'm going to get a small container and ship this single turbo bad boy, and everything else Vishnu makes to make my car go faster across the pacific

Hopefully I'll set off a sonic-boom.

You Bay Area folks are hella lucky! Hopefully Shiv has some authorized install shops on the east coast.

I'm patiently awaiting 6AT results

Thanks to Shiv and the FFTEC guys for setting this up, really nice guys that know their ish

Id kill for a car like shivs
Unfortunately I have an auto so its just not worth it for me to rebuild the tranny, would cost too much for everything.
People who get this kit will have so much fun.

This is the cat in the chicken coupe. These kits are going on peoples cars. But there is no pricing and people are shipping there cars instead of the kit shipping to them. I thought all the testing was done. so why is this still a limited only in the bay, in house g13 calssified kit?

+1. Chimed in on the original invite thread, but i was lucky enough to get a ride along too and Sean gave me a tour of the shop. Great staff and facility. Everyone had the same giddy look coming outta Shiv's car. Anyone else who got a ride felt like we're driving a Prius when they got back into their car?

I obviously can't speak on their behalf in regards to this, all I can say is check the forum for updates or subscribe to Vishnu on Facebook. The Car & Driver report should be coming soon, as well.

Thanks for the write up on the ride along! However, am I reading this right that the kit won't be for sale just as a kit, so us DIY'ers can install it? We've built engines, done swaps, etc, and I'd hate to have to take a car somewhere and pay someone for something we can do at home . . .

Thanks to everyone who came to the Open House and spent the day with us! And I'm happy everyone had a great time in the shop car. By our last count, I gave 11 rides throughout the course of the day. I think I had as much fun as the passengers

And of course, thanks for all the kind words. We are preparing ourselves to begin shipping single turbo kits out once we finish up a couple more in-house installs. By the looks of it, the install should be no more difficult than replacing a set of twin turbos.

Cheers
shiv

Emmissions going to be an issue maybe?
Actually there isn't a better place than where you guys are to find out the answer to that!
