Proud new 335i coupe owner! BPU reccomendations?

Hello everyone! Just purchased an 07 space gray 335i coupe 6MT and loving it so far. I've done a tiny bit of research on the upkeep of these machines (HPFP, valve springs, etc) and was wondering if there is anything in particular I should know about mechanically?? My car has 60,150 miles and I'm close to deciding on an aftermarket warranty. I've owned a twin turbo in the past (2JZGTE 04' Supra) and might have just been bitten by the mod bug again as well. Any reccomendations for basic power upgrades to get me near the 400hp mark? Thanks in advance for any help!

Procede + Dual Cone Intake + PWM Meth = ~400hp
Procede + DCI + DPs + PWM Meth = ~420hp

Add in a FMIC and Cat-Back and you are looking at ~450hp

I may be partial to procede, but it's the only one I have experienced. I love it though.

May I ask, where did you get all these numbers from?

I put ~ to signify approximates. The numbers I put are averages from my recollection of various dyno sheets which have been posted on these forums.

Before you get a tune, I would recommend reading this sticky. It also wouldn't hurt to read the first few pages of the "other thread" the OP has a link to in the first line:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=493245

I ordered a PROcede on Friday, hence the avatar Very excited to try it out.

You will undoubtedly get many recommendations, but here is mine:

1. JB4 is the best bang for the buck if you are at all concerned about budget. You can run a JB4 with everything else stock with no problem, as long as you don't go with too aggressive a map. If you are going to do more than a tune, you will probably want to add downpipes to the other stuff below.

2. Helix FMIC is considered by many (most?) to be the best in the business. From a recent thread:

Quote:

It forces air through the entire intercooler more efficiently than the rest in my opinion. Look at the plastic cowl, it's divided purposely into 3 sections for this reason. Since the others don't go right up to the top of the plastic cowl, less air will be forced through the intercooler and will just go over the top of it. The Helix goes right to the top of those divided sections blocking the air from going over and forcing more air through the core.

So basically the deep core of the Helix is used more efficiently in my opinion. And yes I have a Helix and I'm from Jersey, but have no affiliation with them what so ever. It's just how I see it. Others are good, but for this application I think the Helix is better.
3. Intakes to a certian extent are a dime a dozen, but Helix engineers their own and it has favorable reviews on here.

Thjese are all easy enough to install yourself if you are so inclined, and you can even get the JB4 from Helix. Check out their site or give Eric (the owner and all around good guy and true BMW enthusiast) a call:

Am I the only one that noticed he said he had a 2004 supra? Toyota ended production of the Supra in 2002.....

Not trying to be a dick, just.....odd claim to make.

Thanks for the info guys. JB4 seems like the best bang for the buck out there. I miss the sound of my blow off valve and had an HKS before, anyone here using one on their 335?

JB4 is the best bang for your buck...if the bang you're referring to is the sound of your engine knocking??

Maybe I'm being overly cautious... I've never tuned any of my previous cars, but I'd rather spend a extra few hundred $ on a proper tune than risk wearing out my engine prematurely.

I'm very new here, but just out of curiosity, do people actually read these forums carefully? There are many knowledgeable people that have imparted loads of useful information. Surely, modifying your very expensive car should be done with some degree of caution. It's one thing if the modification is cheap, but quite another if it's interaction with your vehicle can cause very expensive damage. That's being penny-wise and pound-foolish.

WHAT??? JB4 is one of the most tested and established tunes in the world. It just so happens to be a good value too.

LOL at "BPU". But you should definitely start off with a tune for your car. Can't go wrong with either Cobb, JB4, or Procede. I went with Cobb due to the ease of install.

Meh only the Supra guys call it BPU or BPU+ because of that one vendor who trade-marked it or something ridiculous. Logical jump from a RWD I6TT to a....rwd I6TT.

I wish there was a post supplemental to the one at the top comparing the tunes that covers questions people always seem to have. Like how they do Meth control with a COBB AP? How they log with the JB4/Proceed/Dinan? A quick description of the 15 ohm resistor swap people do for the JB4. That and more in one convenient post would be nice.

To be fair the JB4 has an available CPS module which in essence controls timing the same way a Procede does. Should be mandatory for those running a JB4 on pump gas. I run Cobb though.

Yeah, I laugh at "FBO" everytime I see it, just an interesting abbreviation that applies to the BMW 335 crowd. Anyone else use "BPU" other than Supras?

I'm partial to Procede, but you can't go wrong with any of the 3 major players: Cobb, Vishnu, Burger. Other custom flashes or off-the-shelf flash tunes such as Dinan (conservative) or GIAC (aggressive) are good as well.

What is your budget and how far do you want to go for 400WHP?

I would do the following:
COBB AP, Intercooler, Intake ->stage1+, or add DPs which I would add and run Stage2+

JB4 is no doubt the best bang for your buck. I have the HKS SSQV 4 BOV and I recieve nothing but compliments on how it sounds .
