Anti-seize on wheels? Why not? Gary?

Many of you have experienced BMW wheels that "stick" when trying to remove them, often you have to Lund on then with a rubber mallet to get them off. Some have suggested using anti-seize around the hub where the wheel sits but I have read tire rack and BMW suggests not to. Why not?

Ps my winter wheels took 3-10 minutes each to hey off this weekend, while my wife's Honda took a couple seconds.

The quicker way it to remove the lugs and just slowly lower the car using the jack until it touches the ground. The wheel will pop loose and then you just jack it back up and remove.

I have been doing it for years with no problem. Just be sure that it goes on the wheel mating surfaces (including the edges of the hub) only. Anywhere else and it will flap around when the wheel rotates, ending up on your rotors. Antiseize on rotors is not good (becomes anti-brake). You don't need much - a $7 jar of it from the auto parts store lasts years.

Also, it has been suggested to me that you should not put it on the lug bolts. This is because the torque figures from the manufacturer are for dry bolts, and any sort of anti-seiqe would result in over torque of the lug bolts.

The loosening the bolts and lowering the car trick works, but seems kind of a brutal way to do it. I have done it without damage though.

Its fine to use some on the mounting back plate of the wheel, just try not to get any on the lug bolts or in the bolt holes.

Thanks.
I will try using a small amount of anti-seize just on the mounting back plate and hopefully not have to use the "jack trick" in the fall.

Light donkey kick will get them right off. Just kick the tire, not the wheel.

And put on a VERY thin layer, if you put too much on the wheel will not sit completely flush and will be out of balance.
