Intake Valve cleaning, before/after at 52k

Had this done at the dealer today. Havent drove the car much but it sure does idle a hell of a lot smoother. Tip-in low end throttle feels a little crispier too. I am sure I am going to notice the difference. Now to get my tune soon!!!

I used a coupon in another valve cleaning thread that was posted up and they met me half way. $550ish or so. $650 was the original. Saved $100 and thats going towards a tune now so no biggie. Just knowing they are clean is worth it. Hopefully by the time it needs it again I will know how to do it myself and have a 2nd vehicle where I can take my time and do it over a few days even.

Ill tell you though, the car hasnt idle'd this smooth that I can remember. Its awesome.

Well I'm sure my car could benefit from this as well. Thanks for the post!

Get a BMS OCC now that your valves are clean to keep them that way.

If an OCC is going to catch enough blow-by to prevent deposits, then you are going to have bigger problems (i.e., crankcase pressure issues).

It's debatable if OCC's help much, if at all. Even people running meth have shown no benefit in preventing deposits. In my opinion, the carbon deposits are unavoidable and there is no substitute for regular cleaning. The best option would be secondary port injection of fuel but I don't see this happening on this platform.

This is basically what the tech advised me on. The front valves looked better then the rear valves due to how the system works. There really isnt much we can do about it, its just a by-product of DI cars. Sucks but oh well.

Im up 3mpg on the way to work this morning already, same driving and the car idles much smooth and throttle tip in is near instant again. The car feels much smoother. Im very satisfied so far.

The rear cylinders usually look worse because the OEM PCV valve drips oil vapor and contamination right into them. I have developed an upgraded PCV valve setup that I believe will help that alot on top of not leaking boost pressures beyond the valve into the crankcase either.

Also a good high quality OCC can also help fight the cause, I definitely wouldn't say they do not do anything. In low load conditions they will not, but in high load conditions they do.

Interesting and good to know. Thank you for the insight.

I'm just wondering - assuming you have a CPO - did you happen to ask them whether this particular work was covered under the CPO warranty? If you don't have a CPO, would you happen to know whether this would be covered under the CPO? I have one and my 4 yr/50k maintenance warranty just ended, but of course I've got my CPO with which I was just able to get the dealership replace my turbos because the waste gates were making a rattle and didn't have to pay a dime. I've got a 2008 e92 335xi 6MT with just over 49k miles on it now and I'm ready for a tune, however I was told by Ian from Cobb tuning that it would be a good idea to clean the heads prior to tuning it.

Thanks in advance
