Vishnu / FFTEC - My Single Turbo Experience
I drove in from Portland OR., 650 miles one way! I guess you could say I’m a skeptic like most people and question things that seem to be too good to be true. Like Virtual Dyno, if you really think you’re making 500hp with stock turbo’s, think again. My car has been on both Dynojet and a Mustang Dyno’s, but when you have two cars that pull on the same dyno, you get a very accurate comparison. I have the Procede rev 2.5, PWM Meth 70/30 with 3” charge pipe, 7” HPF FMIC, VRSF 3” DPs, DCI and I can tell you that even with full bolt-on Shiv’s car is making well over 200 RWHP more than me on the same dyno. I don’t care who you are, that is an impressive increase in performance.
I arrived at FFTEC early so I could look around. I didn’t know what to expect at first, but I was greeted with a warm welcome by William, co-owner of FFTEC. Everyone was busy still getting ready, but I couldn’t have felt more comfortable as everyone from FFTEC said hello and welcomed me to look around. Tom from the forum showed up in his new 335 n55 just shortly after I did. When William found out Tom and I parked our cars outside of the blocked off area in front of the shop he asked us to pull our cars in front and park them next to the other cars on display. I can honestly say that all the guys at FFTEC were really cool and they truly have an incredible shop. Just the fabrication work on the newest version of exhaust manifold and down pipe is absolutely art work. If you haven’t seen some of the latest pictures, check out Vishnu Performance Systems on Facebook. Vishnu-Performance-Systems I was standing outside when Shiv arrived. He gave everyone a little show as he did a short pull from the corner. You can hear the big turbo spool up and the whish as the diverters opened up. This was the first time meeting Shiv in person, but he’s always been cool to talk to on the phone and has always been there for quick questions via text message. Shiv is not the geeky short fat kid with glasses who spends all of his time playing Need 4 Speed, but more like the Michael Shoemacher of the BMW n54, pushing the limits of performance… Shiv is truly a wealth of information. He’s at the front line driving the aftermarket development of the n54 performance and from talking with him he is truly determined to push the engine to its limits. Vishnu and FFTEC are also stress testing an N54 to find it’s week points. If all goes well, we could see a rev limit increase to 8k for the single turbo application. Just the RPM change alone we could see 700+ peak HP with Shiv’s current setup. I was actually the first person to go for a ride in the single turbo beast. I honestly didn’t know what to expect considering my car feels freakishly fast. We actually had to go for a little drive to warm up the engine so we drove out to the Mexico City Highway where we could open it up for a 3rd and 4th gear pull. I don’t know how to explain it other than it really felt like the hand of Shiva reached into the car and pulled me into the seat as the car spooled up and shot to warp speed. If you think you have a fast 335 and you think your 335 pulls you into the seat hard as you accelerate, double that and you’ll know what it’s like to ride in Shiv’s car. The single turbo upgrade will put your car in a completely different league. The funny part to all of this is Shiv’s engine is still just a stock 3L with 80k of hard miles. Off boost it’s still a perfectly acceptable daily driver. Just knowing you have 650 RWHP at your command can only brings a smile to your face as you pull up to that Porsche 911 Turbo S knowing it can’t pull away from you. Yeah, I’m sure if you throw some money at the Porsche it would run 9s in the quarter, but you don’t have 160k wrapped up in your 335… I want to thank all the guys at FFTEC and Shiv from Vishnu for a wonderful open house event. I feel sorry for everyone that couldn’t make it. I don’t know about everyone else who took a ride, but the Single Turbo savings account is in full effect. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the first AT car will perform with that much HP and Torque. Vishnu/FFTEC Single Turbo 6AT First Drive Hope everyone enjoys reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. I can honestly say even though my car turns low to mid 12’s, it now feels slow. Thanks Shiv… Last edited by Wedge1967; 04-24-2012 at 10:03 PM.. |

I told Shiv the next time I'm down the first round is on me.
Good luck with your testing and hope you get your turbo upgrade soon. Should be a sick ride when the guys are finished. Look forward to hanging out again soon. |

Yeah, my wife wasn't too happy with me taking off because of the weather. So I didn't stick around for drinks Saturday night. Takes anywhere from 8 to 10 hours depending on traffic. Ended up going out to Sea Side on Sunday with the kids. PM me sometime. Just over in Tigard off Sholls.

Well, considering it has the hp of a ZR1... Yeah you can say it's badass. Turbo lag, no more than a stock 335. Dump pipe would get annoying after a while. I can tell you the turbo spool sounds amazing... I love my 335, but this would be an amazing setup on a 1 M.

It was good meeting you, Im still thinking about how quick that car is! I couldnt believe how tossable/controlable his 335 is with that much power. I cant say enough about how cool/knowledgeable Shiv, William, Sean, and the rest of the fftec guys were.
I will be taking my cars there from now on to get my boost fix |

Great write up. I think within 3 seconds of riding in his car I knew I had to step it up and get the single turbo kit. It is most definitely in another league. Have you stopped grinning yet? As soon as I read this it brought that grin back.
I am super bummed I could not make it on Saturday. It sounds like it was a lot of fun. I'm sure we will see you down here again soon. Good luck with convincing the wife on getting the kit. I have almost succeeded. |

Still grinning. I can't wait to see more info on the AT car. Looked really quick. Had a good time and was able to meet a few people. I'm looking forward to hitting a few other events. I would like to make it down in June, but I'll be in Germany. Not sure how I'll swing it with the wife and also considering I'm 10 hours away, dropping the car off could be an issue considering it's my daily driver. I might have to drop it off sometime when I'm headed out of the country for a week and book my flight from the bay area. Regardless, I won't look at my car the same way until I have a single turbo upgrade. LOL

Good meeting you too Tom. I agree, the suspension upgrade on Shiv's car really helps. He actually drifted the ramp on our way back to the shop when he took me out to the highway so he could open it up. He just tossed the car in and stomped on it.
Look forward to seeing a big single on that N55. Next time I'm in town we'll have to all get together for drinks. Quote:

Awesome, it's too bad us xi guys are going to be limited. I wish a tuner would go ahead already and figure out how to disable the front wheels via tune.
