Question 2009 335i seden or 2012 135i coupe

So I've had my 2007 335i sedan for 2 years now and I love it! I have the JB+ and DCI on it and I like the power. My CPO warranty is up in Feb 2013 and I want to trade/sell my car before it gets close to ending to get more for it so I went in and looked at my options. I'm currently paying $480 a month and looking to stay around there, so I was able to talk them down from $638 a month to around $530 a month for the 2012 135i fully loaded on a 3 year lease. The other option is a 2009 335i sedan I could buy thats listed at $38K with lots of options. Mine car is fully loaded so losing options would suck (thought about getting vert but can only afford a striped down 2012 135). I like how the 135 has a DCT 7 speed, harmon kardon, ect but not sure if i wanna lease it for 3 years. They also have 2008 sedans that are similar to mine but think it would be pointless to get one of those since its only a year newer and mine is just as nice. Only reason why I need the warranty is bc i still having nightmares of blowing my Porsche engine and losing $23K to replace it because the warranty company wouldnt pay for it. I know the 135 would be slightly faster stock with the DCT but not too many tunes out for the N55 currently correct? Just seeing what you guys would do since i'm torn. They really want my 2007 (48K miles) and appraised it at 18500 but with mine having every option I think I could sell it for more or talk them down?

Like you acknowledge, the n54 platform has A LOT more quality aftermarket mods availables that will get every bit out of the engine. While the n55 is starting to get some aftermarket luv, its still "new" territory. I love my 335i sedan, it gives me all the benefits of the coupe (nearly the same performance, and personally i think it rides better on the highway since its got a larger wheelbase) but is much more driver friendly. I wear a suit to work everyday and its really nice to be able to hang it in the backseat. Plus it'll never gets old when I'm the highway and a g37, cayenne or is pulls up next to me, thinks they're being cute and all I have to do is downshift & its off to the races..... the look on some ppls faces when they forget how powerful the n54 can be.

If you're not gonna put the 135i on the track, you probably wont even notice the difference between the zf 6-speed AT and the DCT. End of the day, it's what you want out of the car -- something more everyday friendly or a no-holds performance 2 door

I agree with everything you said regarding the sedan part, performance part, etc but have you driven a DCT? The shifts are amazingly fast and throws you back in your seat, def fun to drive. Since i'll be leasing id only throw a tune and DCI on it which I'd be fine with if it can hit 12's like i did with my sedan with JB+ at 100%. They just came back and I can lease the 2012 135i for $524 a month or finance the 09 sedan for 563 a month with 2500 down on both. I pay 480 right now and i have tire and wheel warranty along with the CPO, starting to think since the dealership has already replaced so many engine parts on mine I may be ok with keeping it since these are stout motors?

OP you need to get the 2009 335i sedan and then transplant the DCT into it....

An then make sure you document it with pictures!

+1 Id get the LCI E90 as well. The best of all worlds is the 1M, if the budget allows.

LCI = 2009+, car got a minor facelift, idrive upgrade, etc.
If your car is still in perfect shape, even a 2007 with 48k miles is worth way more...mine (with nav/prem/sport/heated seats) paid off at $27k...and that was 40k miles and no CPO.

2009 with loaded options under full CPO and 4/50 warranty still should be way under $38k.

I got my loaded E90 LCI for 35.9k CPO with 11k miles on it. This was back in 11/2010.

Either I got the deal of a century or that dealer is taking you for a ride. That E90 LCI assuming its fully loaded CPO should be around 32 or so?

In terms of trade-in you need to look at Galves for trade in value not Kbb or edmunds. You will end up within 1k on expected trade-in if you look at galves.

Wow, I guess I can see if i can talk them down some more now. It does have most of the options and is CPO'd. They used autotrader to value my car. If you google rickhendrick BMW charleston and look at pre-owned and sort by 335 and 2009 its first one on top thats black with Dakota brown leather.

Also keep in mind I bought my car in NYC one month before winter. I would guess the dealer was desperate not to have a RWD 335i sitting on their lot for 4-5 months.

But regardless, I'd sell my car tomorrow if I could get 38k for it !!!

N54 or N55....I'd still take a 335 over a (non M) 135 any day of the week. I just couldn't see myself driving something that is commonly referred to as "cute" or "fun little car".
