My Garmin 660 easy mount solution **Pics**

I bought this cupholder mount from ebay ($30). It's a quick and easy method for those of us who use portable nav units but do not want to deal with a permanent mount or a clip like ProClip. When I am done using it, I just throw the mount in the glovebox. The thing stays put around fast corners.

looks good, have you tried windshield mounts, those are suction cups, so you can easily take them down, but they put screen within your peripheral vision, either right or left side of the dash. I was looking at a ton of mounts (from pro-clip and others) my friend has a windshield mount in his A6 and it brings the screen to about the same distance forward at the turn indicator/wiper controls etc.

Yeah I have that window mount, I didn't want it attached to my window, it's in perfect view while driving

I just received my Garmin Nuvi 660 from Costco ($550 online sale) On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate it?

I love the 660, it scans quickly and it has great search functions and the traffic updates work well. I think you will be very happy with it, especially with the price you paid for it.

Cool solution. My only complaint about the Garmin units (and I'm a huge fan of Garmin) is that to get the better Nav features, I have to pay for useless stuff that I'll never use in the unit. For instance, the 660 has the following that is useless to me:
1.) Bluetooth (car has it.)
2.) Picture Viewer (WTF? While driving? Come on.)
3.) MP3 player (iPod, Zune. Any car not a radio anymore??)
4.) Audio book player (Again, other, better solutions out there.)

So the Nuvi 350 is as low as I go and still have the Voice direction feature. But I could really do without all that other crap in there. What I could really use is multi-point optimized routing in the Nuvi form factor.

I agree with you, but Garmin just bundles those options, I bought mine from Costco at a discount so I rarely think about the options I don't use.

+1 I love my 370, but the unit really needs a way to specify "don't use this road" on a proposed route.

Except for the bluetooth, those are all free features... the thing already has speakers, a display, and a memory card slot, so the only one of (2,3,4) that costs anything at all is royalties for Audible.com. I wouldn't be surprised if even that were free/subsidized to increase Audible's customer base.

Now Bluetooth, that one always struck me as a little odd, though a cheapo bluetooth baseband-on-a-chip is only a few bucks in sufficient quantity. Bluetooth logo royalties are probably more.

So I guess the moral of the story is to expect a lot of worthless bullet-points on a product when a market gets into the battle-of-feature-lists stage

I am using the Garmin Mobile 20 with my Treo, it work nice since the screen can swap landscape and portrait, the only problem is the arm for the mount is ridiculously short. If I ditch it for the Mobile 10, which is just the bluetooth GPS receiver, a mount that yours; Shady, might work a lot better, if I can find one that takes smartphones.

I have the 660 also. I either use the windshield mount or the bean bag mount. Is the unit able to see the satellites okay when back that far?

Another fan of the beanbag mount. It really does work and removes and installs in a couple of seconds.

Mine took longer to install After I took the bean bag mount out of the box, it took 10 seconds to install But really, it is an amazing thing and it works like a charm I would highly recommend this mount if you don't want to stick that disc on the dash or suction it to the window which is illegal in California.

I wonder if the navi units have better signal reception these days. My portable Garmin that is a couple of years old had to be on the dash to work and it still lost reception sporadically depending on terrain.
