Taking my car to Western Australia
Anyone on here ever done this?
I'm considering taking my 335d over to Perth so was wondering if anyone could offer any advice/pitfalls. I initially wasn't going to bother but looking at the price of cars over there plus taking in to account I wont actually be paying the shipping costs I'm now considering it. The fees for registration/tax etc would be payable by me but even so I would still be well in pocket. My concerns are that they don't appear to sell the 335d in Oz so was worried about any parts I may need and also wondering do they sell many diesels over there? I'll also post this in the Australian section but any help or advice would be appreciated. |

I think you still have to pay the import duty unless it's a classic car and this is why imported cars are so expensive in the first place.

You still need to pay GST + LCT (if applicable) + 5% tarriff on the depreciated used value plus some other crap like customs inspection fees.
I'd still do it. The price of cars in Australia is ridiculous. As for spare parts, the 535d is sold in Oz so I'm guess most engine parts would be common with that. |

You will need to almost strip the car completely to clean it to the required standard for import.
The Aussies are paranoid about invasive species..

Bet your well excited. My mate moved there 9 years ago. Took his corvette. Had to have it converted to RHD, obviously not a problem in your case. Do it. Apparently cars are mega expensive over there.

It seems bizarre, you'd think we be more worried about stuff coming the over way but according to the guy from the shipping company we don't bother that much in the UK.

Yeah at least 3 times as much, for BMW's probably even more. I'm very excited, just waiting on the visa coming through this week
