YCable and Pandora
I have a 2012 328i without BMW Assist, without Nav, and without Enhanced Bluetooth. I went out to my car just now and played Pandora via the YCable. I was shocked. It worked! I didn't get album art on the idrive screen, but it did show the artist and song name, and I was able to use the radio's skip forward button to move the song forward!

yes i learned this about a month ago. You can also pause it and resume it by pressing in the volume button. I love finding little gems like that. Youtube videos will also play the same way.

On a BMW without BMW assist is Pandora transmitted via the headphone jack on the iPhone? Now a car with BMW assist, without Nav hooks up, as I understand it, connects only with the usb port. So in that case is Pandora streamed thru bluetooth, not via the usb port? Can the iphone be connected via usb and still stream via bluetooth? Isn't bluetooth limited in audio quality? If so, the Y cable would provide better sound. It would be nice to be able to transmit Pandora thru usb. But I guess that would require BMW apps.

I use a standard 3.5mm audio cable with my android, which allows you to use pandora, but you only get sound. I just did some searching and found an iPod input converter to regular MP3 plug. In theory if I use that with my Y-Cable I should be able to see the artist and song name on the idrive. I just ordered it to test this out. Once I receive it I'll report back to let you know if it works or not.

My iPod input converter to regular MP3 plug cable arrived today. Unfortunately, I was only able to get sound. I'm still going to keep it as it's easier to just plug it into the Y Cable instead of having to unplug the Y-Cable and then plug in the 3.5 mm audio cable. Oh well, it was worth a try.
