Run flats suck

Got a flat tire, drove for 35 miles and the car started shaking pretty bad, called roadside assistance, don't want to damage the rims, who is responsible if that does happen BMW said its not their responsibility, wtf? Next time I'm calling roadside right away, don't want to damage my rims that BMW does not cover if that happens. Basically roadside is useless in a way if you ask me...

Run flats do suck.

Why should BMW pay for your RIM if you damaged it by riding on a flat tire? I have never heard of this with any car manufacturer.

Because BMW didn't include a spare and offered run flats as the solution. e.g. their tire solution didn't help.

Heck my current car does not have a spare either and they are not run flats. I can't expect them to pay for my rim if I was silly enough to continue to ride on it with a flat.

You have a little indicator on your dash that will light up letting you know you have a flat. At that point if you have run flats I would try and get off the road as soon as possible. With out run flats pull over right away.

No car company will pay for your rims that is unless you have some type of tire/rim insureance.

I agree with the OP that it sucks but that is the way it is.

I miss the run flats... too expensive though. I ran mine until they popped... blew the front on the hwy and kept going at 60ish mph 15 miles home. They work great in my experience.

Now I have a 2+ year old slime kit as my rescue.

When i got the indicator telling me i have a low pressure tire i called the dealer, the service advisor said i can still drive doing 50mph, he said that run flats tires are for the purpose of you making it to the dealer (up to 50miles), well i did everything he said, going 50mph but at around 35 miles into it, the car starts shaking and i stop, called the dealer and they towed my car. Why is the service advisor telling me to drive? i dont know, but it was their call, he could of said to tow it instead of driving, my rim is not damaged, but don't tell me to drive if u dont cover the rim in case it gets damaged. Thank god i have tire warranty

I hated mine. With all the potholes in OH it felt like hitting a curb head on every time you ran one over. I was afraid my suspension would break.
Needless to say I got rid of the run flats in few months.

no potholes here in AZ. The problem of getting rid of the run flats is that if you still have car warranty, they will void things if you change the run flats to regular tires...

For a reason exactly like this I always keep a can of this stuff in my car (along with an extra quart of oil)

For $12 it's cheap peace-of-mind

So it looks like the SA informed you based on the manual. It does state if vibrations are felt to pull over as the tire has failed.
