locking mechanism

I have a base 325I E90 and I have noticed that when I lock the car the red bulb below the rear view mirror doesn't blink. I used to have a standard 320I E46 without an alarm system and the red bulb below the rearview keeps on blinking when you lock your car. I was told by the dealer that I have to buy an alarm which will cost me around $800.00 to have that little bulb blink when you lock your car. I would appreciate anybody's input.

thanks,

The dealer is right. I wish the light would blink as well.

Not neccessarily. 800$ may be their price including install.

That would be expensive, but not a lie.

Either way, the alarm is probably 90% plug and play and the other 10% being a s/w change to acknowledge the alarm install. 800 is extremely expensive.

It's supposed to be a 4.5 hr install, so 800 is expensive but not overly gouging.

Have you seen the installation in the DIY forum? It is much harder than on an E46.

Unless there's been a major price increase since June?
$800.00 is 50% higher then most dealers charge installed.
I paid $450.00 here in New York. You may want to go to another Dealer?

$800 does seem quite expensive but considering the time to install I guess its reasonable, yet I would like to only pay $450 like the chap above. So I guess this install price is by dealer or region. Thanks for the input guys.
