305/30/20 Pss

As most of you know 305 PSS rears are not available here in US until the fall, but Canada has them! Putting these bad boys on my new hre p40sc when Nate gets then in. Just figured I share this.

Interesting, wonder if they will fit on the Rear stock 20" wheels? Let us know how they perform! The 295's are just not sticking for me..

Can you also get 275s for the front to keep it balanced?

Shouldn't be an issue. The problem is keeping the balance to the front width to avoid creating oversteer.

Ehhh, yeah your right, definitely don't wanna any more oversteer. Would definitely need the 275's in the front.

What is the difference in the manufacture's contact patch (not just the math off the tires spec 295->305, but the actual spec from manufacture's report).

Is the 305 XL weight rated...?

Link/details please?

I have been in contact with Michelin and apparently these can be ordered via any authorized Michelin dealer .
The specs are 305/30ZR20/XL 103Y – part number 87598
http://www.michelinman.com/tire-sele...05/30/20/tires

I sent an inquiry to Tirerack and a few others to ask about pricing and availability

Thanks Jan, it appears to meet the weight rating...
No details on *actual* contact patch size (unless I missed it?)

I also had Michelin tell me that tire were available in my area however after calling a couple different places no one had it available. I called tirerack and they told me they would not be available till September here in the United States. Nate from IND also told me they wouldnt be available here till the fall. I did a google search and found some Mclaren p1 Forum saying they have them in Canada. Lucky for me my brother in law lives in Canada and ordered them for me! Hes bringing them down here to Indiana this weekend.

Should I go for 275 in the front then? I was just going to reuse stock front tires.

Sorry Pic didn't work the first time.

Unless you are driving the car to the limit, it should make very little difference for your day to day life...

The stock tire configurations are as follows:

Name: SpecCapture.JPG
Views: 5843
Size: 96.7 KB

So the Tread Width value for 19" is:

9.4" / 11.1" or 1:1.181 RATIO

the Tread width value for 20" is:

9.7" / 11.6" or 1:1959 RATIO

Note that the "Section Width" based on YYY/ZZ is the same per the specification chart and why it is important to see the Tread Width value.

That means that within the stock tire options you have about 1.26% variance in the ratio of tread width with the stock options.

You can work the same math backwards from your new rear tire "Tread Width" values to see how much of a variance it creates, but it is possible (if you don't check) that upping the Section Width of the fronts to the next size would put you too far the other way.

I would expect (maybe I have it backwards given Stealth's comments) that the more tread in contact in the back would contribute to understeer, and more tread in contact at the front would contribute to oversteer. (Again) Unless you are driving the car to the limit, it should make very little difference for your day to day life...

For example, you could go to the following tire and gain .8" of Tread Width (overall on the two rears)...and it is still a 295 tire.

Name: SpecCapture2.JPG
Views: 5745
Size: 15.5 KB

(AND for those fighting the Speedometer is off issue, it would make a meaningful difference in that correction.)

Yes if I was you I would do 275/35/20 in front and 305/30/20 in the back. When the rear is available in the US I will switch too.

I think it is important to keep the relative contact patches similar.

Anyone switch to the 305 tires yet?
I am placing an order on BBS CH-R Wheels (20X10.5 ET 35 at the rear) and was wondering if all of that can clear without any poke

No issues. Lowered on H&R springs. 305 give a good amount more traction over 295.
