Question Exhaust help...

I'm new to BMW... Just came from the Japanese side of things (04 sti, turbo g35coupe, and back to another sti). Picked up a 08 335xi coupe (6spd of course) in April. The car came with the Dinan axle back exhaust. Im looking to complete the exhaust. Im pretty sure I've settled on the AR Design downpipes due to the general consensus being that, although expensive, they are the best available. So now i have to find suitable mid-pipes. Only Borla ??? Do I have to buy a whole new cat-back?? I kind of like the sound of the Dinan (i know it will change drastically with non stock pipes in front of it) and its a pretty expensive muffler so why get rid of it. Also...are there any turbo headers/exhaust manifolds and up-pipes out there for our cars. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Midpipes are a waste of money. If you like your Dinan axle back, keep it and forget about the midpipes.

Not as many as you may think. Is 5 extra hp worth the smell (since you plan on adding downpipes) and rasp associated with a secondary cat delete? You decide. It wasn't worth it for me.

I checked the Meisterschaft...$1300+ just for piping with no cats or resonator!!! I only paid $1200 for my whole Cobb turbo back set up on my last sti...and they have a great rep.

I do, actually. BMW PE + Macht Schnell Downpipes

You can hear a slight amount of rasp during hard shifts. If I got rid of my secondaries, the rasp would be really annoying.

Get the AR downpipes, and if you want more sound, get some mufflers. Keep stock mids with stock turbos.

From what I've seen, the mid pipe cats are not a restriction until you're making over 400whp. At that point you still have to decide if the extra smell and chance of extra smoke are worth the small increase in HP.

If you have smoke you have bad turbo seals and the smell is not bad at all honestly...slight noticeable at start up. I noticed a noticeable speed in spool up...can't say how much power is gained.

Yes. If you push the turbos really hard or if the seals are going bad they will smoke a little. Make sure you use good oil and change it frequently if you're pushing high power on stock turbos.

You could always go back and install some 200 cell race cats which will take care of the smell,I don't think it affects power at all. it probably does affect spool up a bit though as I've compared logs from Rob to mine and his seem to spool a little quicker than my RBs
