Quietest aftermarket exhaust

Since I have the stg 2 turbos coming
I should probably upgrade the exhaust.
Which one makes the least noise possibly with high flow secondary cats?
So from the dps back

Thanks

VRSF's exhaust is pretty quiet for a catless catback. For a system with cats (axle-back mufflers) Dinan's mufflers sound very nice, and arn't too loud.

Dinan is quiet until you give it hell then it really wakes up.

Do you also shed most of the factory weight?

No because it's just mufflers.

Not sure if you have an E90 or E92, but I find the 2007 stock exhausts on the E92 sound great. I think they made changes to successive years and made them quieter, so if you have 2008+ and later E92, try to source a 2007 E92 stock exhaust and if you want it louder, just cut out the secondary cats and weld in a straight pipe. Will be much cheaper and will not have the drone that many aftermarket exhausts have.

E92 2006 build.
Yes the exhaust is nice at wot with the castles downpipes.
I just like the no drone at cruise.
But with new turbos coming I would like to push more volume through like three inch piping mandrel bent with maybe like 200 cel count cats just to kill some smell.

Do you think keeping the stock mufflers creates any substantial restrictions ?
So 3 inch pipe from dps with high flo cats but keeping the muffs?
Ideas

I would research but I don't think car back exhaust provide any substantial HP gains. You could remove the secondaries to free it up a bit, but I would be surprised if you gains more than 8-10 whp.

Agreed, every car I have heard with an HKS piece always sounded great, can't speak of the drone though.

Our 3.5" exhaust shaves just over 40lbs of weight and has little to no drone in comparison to the other guys. Here's a few videos:

I have never used them but I give my vote to VSRF for a tame exhaust based on a lot of vids. Dinan and the PE get a bit loud as well as some of the others. I prefer a little more sound, the wifey doesn't, so I bought the BMW PE.

just keep the stock setup with catless dps. if you want more flow you can weld some race 100 cells cats as i have done. best sound and emissions are in check at least where i live.

I have an '07. July '07 build to be exact. I did a HKS and it was about as loud as I wanted, but still too much for Daily Driver use on 8+hr trips. So I sold it and bought another '07 factory exhaust from a local member. I am really surprised how loud the stock exhaust is. With the golf tee mod it's "perfect" to me. There may be some truth to the later models being quieter.

You shouldn't throw codes with your secondaries removed. If you search around I know someone opened up secondary cats and it was only filled with like what appeared to be sound deadening type material.

But if you have a tune, it should be able to remove any possible CEL's, but you should be good to go assuming you have your primaries installed.

Little to no drone? Try none!! Although i haven't ran the exhaust with stock turbos and catless dp's. It sounds perfect with single turbo and no cats.
