Talking Turbos replaced under warranty!!!

Got my turbos replaced under warranty and didn't have to remove my catless dps, STETT charge pipe, JB4, borla catback or dual cones. The car has approx. 78k on it.

Let me just say that the car even sounds so much better now. Little to no drone at all. Smooth as hell. Feels brand new again. Now, I just need to do the walnut blasting, replace a few of the hoses and I'm all set to continue modding.

So tell us how the conversation with the SA went if you don't mind. I'm about to take mine in after removing all mods besides FMIC...

The SA is an enthusiasts just like us. And so is the mechanic that worked on my car. The only thing he said was that if they couldn't get it replaced under warranty, then I would have to pay $150 for the diagnostics fee. Which was fine by me. But lucky for me they were able to get them replaced and $0 out of my pocket.

Just for others' reference - I just had this done as well. I did remove my mods for good measure. I was told by the tech that if you have a 30FF code, it is much easier to get them replaced. If you don't have the code, BMWNA requires photos be taken and a BMWNA inspector to get involved.

Pretty sweet with those mods….I want to take mine in since the seals are shot and burning oil. But they don’t throw any codes, no WG rattle, and build boost perfectly. If I re-cat them, I bet the smoke will “go away”. Very frustrating, may just have to suck it up and throw down for hybrid snails.

I had mine replaced about 7 months ago and I am FBO with an HFS meth kit. I just told them I was modded and not trying to lie to them or hide anything and felt that the mods had nothing to do with the rattle.

Asked them to look at it see what they thought and see if it met requirements to replace under the warranty to 80k for turbos he called me back later that day and said damn you really are modded alot more then we even thought but then said sure they would replace it.

Think it depends on the dealership though my dealership closes to me will not even work on my car and try to tel me the could report me for my catless DP's,
needless to say I give them zero business and prefer to drive th 75 miles for the other dealership if I need to.

Wow very lucky. I brought mine in with all my mods except the JB4 and they said they confirmed I "needed" new turbos, but denied me due to my "aftermarket boost hose setup"

Haha, nice... I got throw out by the SA at one dealership and told not to bring my car back for any type of warranty work ever... Just because I didn't pull my meth pump in the subwell in the trunk. Pulled everything before hitting the next dealer and they got it done. I did have a converstation with the SA after and about half way through someone recognized my car. LOL He said it was too late and because BMWNA didn't have anything on record they just kept going. I can actually here my car spool now. I got new boost silinoids also. Not sure if they replaced yours or not, but if you are flashing with Open Flash, you can put the backend flash and pull low boost codes and that will be one of the things they replace. Then pull that flash and then put down your normal flash.

Mine is at BMW right now. Hoping once they go through all the tests they will just replace my turbos. If not it will be the same $150 diagnostic fee. They did make me replace my K&N intakes with a stock one(makes zero sense) but oh well. If it gets me fresh turbos that's all that matters.

If you don't mind me asking what dealership do you go to and who is your SA? I go to Prestige and my SA is pretty cool but I might have to swithc.

I just recently got my done (this week haha). Had to take out my jb4 and DCI. I took it to BMW-Edison. I'd be very interested in knowing the location of BMW dealerships that are mod friendly like yours.

3rd party warranty but all of the work was covered by BMW. Tried to get them to replace the vacuum lines but they said it was in good condition.

Sorry for the late reply, but with the backend flash installed to pull the underboost code and have it stored in the dme, when flashing back to the stock tune will it erase the code? Or will the code remain stored even after changing the flash? It would be nice to get some new turbos... I'm jealous of your new ones!

Just another update. They are taking pictures to send to BMW and plan on replacing the turbos in the next day. Should have it back by the end of the week! BMW is gonna cover all costs.

Dang that’s awesome. Funny how an argument with the dealer over your choice of intake ends up with brand new turbos for no cost.
