There are so many battery chargers / trickle charges to choose from. Which is safe to use while installing the Cobb Accessport. I don't want my battery to die in the middle of installing it and brick the ECU.

Are there any at Advanced Auto Parts or Auto Zone that others have purchased and used? Can you link me?

If your really worried about it, I would make sure to change up the battery over night and then flash the car in the morning. Because these chargers will not sustain the electrical system of a car over a standard wall plug. Your still dependent on the battery being good. As long as you are not getting low battery warnings while listening to your radio after the car has been shut off... I think you should be fine. But if you do get low battery warnings, time to change the car battery and register the battery to the car.

How long does Cobb take to flash the car??? 5 minutes?

It actually takes about 20mins to do a full install. The car is about 6.5years old now on the original battery and I was told by the dealer, I'll probably need a new battery within the next year or so. I dont have nay long cranks or low battery warnings, but I feel like I'm chancing it when doing the cobb flash if I'm not plugged into the wall.

I hear ya, once my CPO is up I plan to swap out my battery right away... because even a low battery can cause issues like Water Pump communication problems and other gremlins. Better to proactively change out something that is known to wear out.

what about the waterpump is that something you would proactively change?

lol buddy... your car can run just off the battery for a day. Make sure headlights and a/c are off and you will be just fine..

I would change the water pump once I start getting codes in the car. Get an OBD2 cable so you can read the codes and you won't be surprised. Usually the WP will give some kind of sign of impending doom before it gives up the ghost.

I'm waiting for it to possibly be covered under CPO, but after CPO is over... I'm not sure what I would do since I hear that some people have it die in 30k miles and others die at 150k miles. But I still think codes are the key, I'm at about 67k miles and still going. I'm hopeful that by 70k my WP dies and by 80k I need to get my turbos changed.

Not sure... I've never used the Cobb AP, if I do get into the flashing ECU scene... I'll probably use the Open Flash Table device at 1/2 the cost of Cobb and can let you read and write the ENTIRE DME rather than just the tables that Cobb allows you to mess with.

My car almost always needs a jump after a full install. I always flash in an auto shop parking lot but am about to go grab a charger now that's it's happened 3 times lol

Once after flashing my low battery light came on by the time it had finished installing, the car would not start, althought the lights were working. Battery was 5 years old. IMO Don't risk it. I replaced it soon after and Also bought one of those black and decker battery chargers for like $80 and now only flash when this is plugged in.

I have a Black & Decker trickle charger that I hook up also when uploading with the Cobb. One thing I noticed though is that when I have my ignition on which is required, I can' turn off my headlights so the whole time the cobb is doing it's thing, my headlights are on. How can I turn them off with the ignition on?

You can go in to your settings either with your Nav screen or BC stalk and turn the running lights off. Make sure the headlights are turned to O not to auto as well.

I read somewhere that 12 amps is the magic number, when I am flashing my CTEK (3.3 amps) can only keep the battery to 11.9 volts, but I have never had a problem
