M5 vs 550I with Dinan tune

I traded my 11' 550I with Dinan tune in on my M5. My service Tech told me imagine mine on steroids. I only have 2k miles on the M5 and have just started really getting on it. I don't know if I am remembering it wrong or there just isn't much difference. Anyone else compared the two? I wish I had taken it to the track so I could tell, but did not.

One more time. The 550i is a POS. I had one of the most depressing times of my life with that car. I call it a Caprice Classic. Die 550i, die.

Perfect way to describe it. Raced my buddy who was driving a fully loaded Dinan 550i. I was in my F12 M6 cab. Barely beat him on several runs from slow rolls and stops but the handling was very soft on the Dinan.

And then stick a remap on the M6 and you will disappear. This is always going to be the problem with stock Vs. mapped.

And I thought it was my old age creeping up on me... lol yes I could tell that the M is much better in the handling dept. Was just looking for the "steroids" he was talking about.
Thanks guys.

Except a true remap does not exist for the M5/M6.

Nope. You are right. And those steroids don't exist.

Maybe steroids he meant possibly in the torque section!
But like another poster said straight line would be hard to tell as you had mods.

Always believed M/// represented a better handling chassis, suspension, body roll, feel both connection on the road and in the cabin. Ultimate driving pleasure when you take a corner or just mash that accelerator!

This is where the m5 should be on the 'juice' your tech referred too, not just straight line speed.

Just my two cents

Enjoy either way

Right on. The M5 is a FAR more advanced car for all the reasons you just cited. The Dinan 550i remains "soft" like the stock 550i. The cornering and stability is not even close. For $80k it is a heck of a car but I'd just opt for a slightly used M5. You can't "make" an M car no matter what you do to the 550i. There's power sure but the overall car is not of the same genetics.

Yep, this is the reason I traded.... the 550i was not a M... wanted an M when I bought it but the M was not available. So far I love the M. If it is like the 550i it will only get better with some miles on it.

Thx BB

How is this even a logical dilemma? I'm not necessarily aiming at the OP, but I just don't understand why anyone would even mod a 550. The 550 is a nice car if you get the Msport pkg and you are content. If you bought a 550 equipped well, you're only 10-15 grand off. Then you start doing wheels, Dinan garbage, and aero parts...you could have had a M5. Illogical.

My 550 M-sport was a touch under 60 grand after ED. I can easily justify speinding up to 10k in mods and still be 30-40k less than an M5. This is perfectly logical for me but I agree, I would have a harder time spending 10k on mods if I had already spent 80k on a 550.

hence the comment "Yep, this is the reason I traded.... the 550i was not a M... wanted an M when I bought it but the M was not available" The M5 was not available in 2011...

you could have gotten a base m5 with ED for about 85. then it's just a 15K difference. still doesn't make sense.

math check - 60+15=75, not 85

That is a $25k difference but I agree that if you want to mod an M5 is a better choice.

read the quote. he was willing to spend $10k on top of $60k base price, which makes $70k. difference is then just $15k more for m5.

I've always viewed getting an ///M car as more of buying a full and balanced package. There are a lot of mods out there that can achieve the same individual components in a 550 but doesn't give you the completed package. The ///M brand is just the culmination of a total package. I don't feel that the m5 is a modded 5 series. It's just a different car all together that happens to share some parts.
