Salt Residue
Quick Question: How bad is it to leave salt on your car for prolonged periods of time? Is it ok to wash every 2-3 weeks in the winter? What do you guys think?

I would rinse the salt as soon as possible. The Salt can eat your car alive especailly for the exposed alum parts. If you don't have a power wash, best just go to the coin operate power wash and get all the salt off inclusing the undercarriage. HTH.
Lived in Buffalo for 12 years, know too well about salt. |

I agree, i've lived on a beach front house for 5 years and cars generally get eaten away at by the salty air from the ocean. You're a lot more prone to rust, damage to brakes, etc. Give it a good rinse when you can, but you don't have to wash it every week.

If you live in a cold climate, parking in a heated garage makes it worse. As all the ice and snow melts absorbs the salt and helps get it into places that it wouldn't have otherwise gotten.

If you have a touchless wash nearby, take it there whenever there is salt on the car. I still hand wash when I can in the winter, but you can't leave that salt on for long.
