Frozen Blue M5 Stone chips HELP REQUIRED (Looking for matte bra)

Hi there folks, how are you all?

Well I have purchased a brand new frozen blue M5 which I would like to look after her..., looking to prevent the car from getting stone chips!. Obviously as we are all aware the paint is indeed a matte paint and would need a product similar or indeed callede Stealth XPEL which is an american product.

I live in Scotland and the only company I have found and spoken too who supply and fit this product are in Peterborough area and I would require to travel and then pay quite a bit of ££ to have fitted, nearly £2000.

Does anyone have any recommendations or know of any products which could work like the stealth xpel or indeed knows of any Installers or anything that could help save this beautiful paint from chips, or a company closer to Scotland or over the border.

Would love to hear from you guys.

Adam

I did my Frozen Grey M5 recently. I used Suntek Matte and the result is excellent. Can't see the clearbra at all. Xpel Stealth and Prestige also make good matte satin clear bra films.

It is key to get an excellent installer. This makes a massive difference. Here on my install you can't see any lines and it blends perfectly.

I paid $1400 for bonnet, bumper, front fenders, side skirts, mirrors, headlights and parts of rear bumper.

Congrats on new car - frozen blue should really stand out in UK. F10 seems to be quite susceptible to stone chips, so paint shield/matte bra is a good idea. I had a look at xpel ultimate (full front only) - my detailer was also recommending it, however, I didn't like the texture of the film v's the 'raw' paint. Only way to avoid that was installing to whole car (for F10 in UK about 4K, full front should be about 1.5K - this is in addition to detailing the car).

The other thing that dissuaded me was that even films like xpel ultimate still need good maintenance as you can easily stain them if bug splatter, bird droppings, etc. left for too long. Don't expect too much from the self healing properties of these films. I'm assuming the same will apply to the matte versions (I'm sure members such as Stealth, Avlnch, etc. can give you all the maintenance tips for matte film).

Proceed with caution as one company based in the area you mention uses pre-cut templates where the edges of the film are all visible, i.e. they don't wrap around the edges of the panels, but they stop 5mm or so short. On one example I saw fitted in this manner, the film was slightly lifting at the edges in places.

I would suggest you take Stealth's advise and find an independent with proven track record (ask to see their work). Many custom cut from large sheets and will spend more time perfecting the finish. Cost likely to match a large company.

The other thing to consider is that if you drive the car (and some distance) to a company specialising in paint shields only, how will they prep your car prior to fitting the film (simple wash only)? For this reason I would suggest you try a local pro detailer who knows a paint shield/matte bra specialist who will work on their premises (Polished Bliss are based near Aberdeen, if that helps).

Good luck & post some pics when you get a chance.

Thank you so much for your replies guys. Yes it would appear susceptible to the odd stone chip which is really getting to me!

I see you suggest company in Aberdeen, do they fit this product and do you know of any others in Scotland or therabouts who fit a quality product, this is the issue. I don't want to do the full car, just the front end and wing mirrors as my side skirts have M Performance decals.

Its a shame Im not in the states ;-)

Polished Bliss only mentioned due to reputation & fact that they're located in Scotland (may still be very far from where you are located).

I would suggest you post on Detailing World or search for a detailer in the geographical location section on that forum. You will need to ask the detailers if they can get the film installed for you on-site.

Miracle Detail will do this for you (detail car + get expert in to fit film properly), but based in Surrey, so may be too far to travel.

You are likely to end up spending more than 2K if you go detail + film route, although I'm happy to endorse the quality of Paul's work.

As you have frozen paint, I would recommend it. I have Moonstone, so the colour match from painting the inevitable stone chips will not be easy/perfect, but perhaps not as bad as frozen finish.

The product is great. I have no regrets getting this film on my frozen grey M5. I'm sure it's already saved my car from some chips.

Dionysus is right that there is a difference in texture, however It doesn't cause a difference in appearance which is most important thing. You only notice the texture difference at an extremely shallow angle. If that bothers you just do the bumper. You won't notice it at all on bumper.

Key is having a great installer.

I would definitely get some protection. Underneath is a white finish and on my MCB car the chips that came drove me nuts. I've had the white card finished off by Paintshield now also.
