Poor in snow

I notice someone has posted an article on another website indicating the i3 is poor in snow even with winter tyres. Is that the same for all EVs ?

Found the article. They say it struggles on snow also from what I can work out they say the electronics to cope with snow are basic

Maybe someone can translate from Norwegian??

It says that BMW claims that the winter tyres was to new, so it was still silicon covered?

There is only one supplier for winter tyres at the moment, without spikes. Normally i3 with narrow tyres should be better than other cars in snow.

But there are other test showing better results:

FWIW, ALL tires have lousy grip when new...depending on the compound, it can take awhile to reach full grip.

Winter tyres have a higher silicone content compared to summer tyres so take the BMW excuse with pinch of salt. Consider a test drive in the snow if you are in a country where you will need to use it in snow?

And it looks like it was more like ice than snow on the photo. No car can handle ice safely without winter tires with spikes. The other test was on snow, and it should be the same tires since there is only one type.

I think with (as in any electric) all of that torque at startup, you'd have to be quite careful to keep from spinning any tires if the surface was slippery. Compared to a gas/diesel motor, the torque doesn't build, it's there at startup. Compound that with new tires, and who knows.

I test drove one today in Stockholm in snow. It was on standard winter tyres (no studs). I took it on a mix of motorway (in bad slush), town and suburban roads (pretty bad snow). In all conditions the car was fine. A lot more stable than I expected and very predictable when intentionally being ham footed.

No worse in snow than most cars and due to its lightness I'd say it's probably better than bigger rear wheel drive BMWs.
