JB4/DCI vs. NJ State Inspection

I'm sure plenty of people on here have had their cars put through inspection with modifications.

So my question to you is, if I put the JB4 on map/tune "0" which "Disables" the JB4, will the inspection station raise any flags?

I know NJ has gotten MUCH more lenient on inspections, takes around 2 minutes once you're in the bay. I just don't want to get rejected, and have to take everything out. If i'm told i'll likely fail, i'll have a buddy at a small shop do the inspection and slap a sticker on for me.

Thanks in advance!

As long as you have your cats still in place then there isn't any other mod that would make you fail. Putting the jb4 in map 0 is so they can read the obd port.

I don't recall if they hookup to the OBD port though, if not, i'm golden since I still have the factory DP's, and exhaust.

Thanks for the reply

From what my dad told me when he went with my mom's subaru legacy 3.0r. It depends on the person. If they see a young kid (me) they will do mirror check and obd port. My dad was didn't get the obd port checked.

hmm.

I'm just debating whether or not to pay my buddy to slap a sticker on it from his shop that does State Inspection independently.
Likely around $100 though. I'd rather just pass standard DMV Inspection(free)

Another "old" thread on here yielded this to set everything back to "ready":

1) Start cold engine and idle for approximately 2 minutes, 10 seconds. This checks secondary air injection and evaporative leak detection systems.

2) Accelerate to 20-30 MPH and maintain steady speed for 3 minutes, 15 seconds. This establishes closed loop oxy-sensor operations, response times & switching times.

3) Accelerate to 40-60 MPH and maintain steady speed for 15-20 minutes. This evaluates catalytic converters while oxy-sensor response and switching times are checked.

4) De-accelerate and come to a stop. Idle in gear for 5-6 minutes. This checks evaporative leak detection system.

Remember:
The diagnostic checks above will be discontinued if:
1) Engine speeds exceed 3000 RPM
2) Large fluctuations in throttle position
3) Road speeds exceed 60 MPH

It's hard to believe everyone who owns a JB4 in NJ has to do this, unless they have o2 sims. I'm about ready to pay the piper for a sticker

That's the details on how the car will reach readiness after you change maps on the JB4. The problem you are stating is you have non factory DP's... which will not reach readiness. The JB4 is for Off road use only and it has the auto clear feature which will allow the code to generate and then "auto clear it" each time it comes up (probably every 5 miles). If that was not good enough for your track car/off road car, they do have a stand alone DP Fix available which is for those who don't have a JB4 or don't want to "auto clear"... THIS IS FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY, if you use this to defeat emissions testing... I hope they don't take your car away from you and crush it!

The right thing to do is go back to stock DP's if you plan to inspect or street drive. You'll probably notice that there is an ever so slight difference between stock and your non-stock DP's... almost to the point of no significant difference to impact the world smog levels. Get a dedicated high mileage track car if you wanna do crazy stuff IMHO, now getting off my soap box.

I hear you're opinion, but I have stock DP's.

I'm still waiting on my plates and stuff, then running it through inspection.

It'll pass just fine, as long as i'm Map 0, and for the hell of it, run 100 miles on said map with numerous cold starts, etc.

Thanks for taking the time for the reply though.

My bad, I thought you had the non-OEM DP's... yea should should be fine with just Map 0 and just doing a short run of the "readiness" procedure. There was a PDF I found a while back which shows you how to do it in about 10 minutes of driving (I can't seem to locate it now tho).

I had my buddy hookup his scanner and it showed Ready across the board within 40 miles of running Map 0

I think it was the mix of short back road drives, and small highway runs that helped between turning the engine off and on.
