Probably shouldn't mention i have over 200 photos from The French Alps 2014 trip, or over 200 photos from the Geneva 2015 trip, or a few from a lap of Lake Geneva in 2013 :D:

mjn77's user avatarmjn77 so now that you are back home and have had time to decompress... what was your favorite places/passes ? What would you do differently IF anything ? AND... when is your next trip! :D

Oooooohhh. I thoroughly enjoyed Monte Zoncolan and Col del Nivolet deserves a mention for being the longest pass i've ever driven! From base to summit it takes approximately an hour and that is me driving with a purpose. Take it easy and it could quite easily take upto 2 hours.

I couldn't believe how busy the Grossglockner was, never seen a pass like it.

For next time, i need to be less ambitious in how many miles i can drive in a day. After 8 days, i'll be honest, i was fucked, and i'm only just recovered. The next trip will be 7 days and excluding the first and last, will be limiting myself to ~150 miles per day.

Next trip is kinda planned out already; Switzerland and Italy. Two loops, Furka Pass loop and Passo Gardena loop. That will take up most of the time i think.

I've just put Monte Zoncolan and Col del Nivolet on my Bucketlist! Thanks :D

Yeah... Grossglockner is like Stelvio... EVERYONE knows about it and wants to drive it. Just be glad you didn't get stuck behind any caravans or trike-bikers(those trikes can't turn!). lol

Yep. I always try to tell people to only drive a few hours per day and enjoy the area. Driving say six hours or so. Try to have end points(hotels) but being able to change plans and stay at an unplanned location/hotel works wonders for your mental health on these sorts of trips. I always try to find a hotel for the evening by 7pm at the latest.

That sounds like a great tour. :cool!:

Yeah, saw loads of trikes.

I have the same idea, driving between 9am and 5pm, but sometimes you get stuck in traffic, or stop longer than planned somewhere, etc.

We have thought about booking no hotels, and just stopping / finding hotel when we're tired. But always have that nagging in the back of your mind, "what if i can't find anywhere?" I'm not sleeping in my car!!!!!

I might try and squeeze Stelvio in next year, just to cross it off my list.

Yeah... Stelvio is a great pass. I've been there many times. I would also say to drive Flüela Pass too while you are in that area. Gambia Pass is mental bc there are only guardrails at the lower parts of the pass. Once you get half way up... no guardrails and lots of fog. I still get the shivers thinking about it!!

You can look up my Stelvio 1.0 and 2.0 trips in my ED Museum thread. Lots of nice hotels in this area. Be sure to stop in Nauder's there is a nice castle there. And further up the highway is the famous Nauder's Festung(a WWI fortress) carved into the mountain pass! We did a tour of it. I like to stay in Pfunds, Austria.

Here are some pics to inspire your next adventure!... :D

Thanks for posting your trip, looks fabulous and great pics!

We're planning something similar for 2017, so all your info will be put to good use.
Since we will be flying from Canada we will be relying on Sixt to get something nice to drive.
