Been fishing the salt waters the past 2 years and getting serious lately with buying all sort of stuff for it.

Mainly fishing out from Marina Del Rey with the open party boat.

Researching on the next reel for tuna/yellowtail to match with my 30-50 lb rod.

Let's share some info anything fishing here.

Want to give it a crack in lake fishing at some point this year too.

Happy fishing :drink:

Avet JX 2 speed and Penn 16VSX are both great reels in that range. I've done some fishing out of SD on long range boats, plenty of fishing up here in Northern California as well as Mexico and South Florida.

It's good to see another forum member with similar addictions :).

I have been eyeing for a reel in the 50-60 lb range and Avet seems to be good, but I have not been able to pull a trigger on one yet as there seem to be unlimited choices between $300-600. Then there are these single vs 2-speed reels in the mix.

Are all the Penn's made in China now?

Currently have a Shimano Torium with 30 line. Want to use this for local rock and yellows.

Next set will be this 50-60 range rod and reel. Any suggestion? Will want to fish in the Mexico water after a few local trips for yellow/tuna.

I heard 50 lb is not necessary for local yellow/tuna. Is that right?

I haven't been fishing in years but grew up fishing every Saturday (except winter) in New England. Mostly flounder but have also tried fishing for trout a few times. I went with my grandfather so fond memories...

I have been out deep sea fishing numerous times since moving to South Florida, mostly for mahi-mahi but also have a sailfish on my office wall that I caught back in the early 1990s.

I enjoy fishing and am happy to grill some mahi-mahi for guests, but leave eating them to others.

I could use a trip pretty soon. Grew up on Long Island, ran a fishing boat out there, moved to San Diego, fished there (mostly Coronado Islands), Fished Thailand, Bahrain, Maylasia, Japan, and Australia. It's been about 2 years since i've had tight lines.. man do i miss it...

Do we get to post pics and boast? The first image includes the tackle used there in the rig, with the weighin the second pic. Within eyesight of the Ventura Overhangs.

Oh, and if you are moving up in a rod selection, consider Seeker. They are made right here in the 'Nard, and they handle any repair claims right here FAST. According to my brother, even the misadventurous tip breakage.

I feel like this sport is for people who drive X1s and X4s.

That was White Sea Bass. My wife has the earrings from the stones we took out.

This was a private charter, but nowadays I bought an engine on the boat my brother bought, so I can go for free (no, not really, 100 gallons of gas on a dock is expensive!!!)

Enjoy sport fishing very much! Have done mainly reef fishing but am trying to do more offshore stuff.

Sail fish season coming to an end now but Tuna is picking up and there are some big bull Mahi off the shores in South Florida lately.

Here are some pics of reef trips I've done.

I would love to do some fishing out of Florida in the next year or two. Get into some of those sailfish action.

We are anticipating a nice tuna season this year out on the west coast. Still looking for my first bluefin.

Tight lines!

Sailfish is definitely the prize down here! They really put on a show. I'd recommend doing one of those trips in March. Weather is great too. I follow several fishing charters on Instagram and they post some epic videos. It's not rare to see them come back with 8-12 sailfish flags raised.

I wish we had Bluefin. They are quite rare down here. Some Yellowfin but mostly Blackfin are found here. I'd love to catch a Bluefin and sashimi it right on the boat!

Not that one but plenty of Makos over the years.

Had a nice catch this past weekend. Caught 19 yellow tail snapper and 1 strawberry grouper. Between 2 people. Couple bonita and lost 2 mackerel (using 12 lb test with no liter).

We focus on fresh water. My son got his first Smallmouth of the year off our dock this weekend.

Limited out on bat rays on Sunday :mad0260:

OK, no limit really, but we got tired of catching them. FUN, but then at the end we just cut a lot of hooks. Don't want to end up like the Croc Hunter and get stung.

My son had plenty of chances to work a bigger fish, so he's getting good at keeping the rod tip up and knowing when to let it run and when to control it.
