Great instructions, much appreciated. So, I gave this a try today and was unsuccessful.

I was able to get the three screws off, but could not get the tab/clip on the upper left to release. I wasn't sure if the screwdriver should go over the tab "neck" or over to the right, where there was a small slot (hard to see). I assumed that the screwdriver went into the slot, but then I wasn't sure what I was trying to move when "pulling up". Also, FWIW, the upper right portion seemed pretty secure, so I'm not sure what was happening in that area.

On the first steps, I have small hands and it was not easy to get the three screws out. In fact, I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to get them back on at all, but I was able to work them in place and secure them. I had all the recommended tools.

I have some photos and will post them later, if they are additive to the originals.

EDIT: So I'm not sure that I got the correct three screws. I definitely had two correct, but maybe not the third. I FINALLY understand that the drawing from the manual is the "frame" that holds the trim piece. I think I had the two screws marked in green, but my third screw was higher and slightly inboard from the inboard green screw. It's hard to tell, given the tight area, but I would say that my third screw was somewhere in the blue box area and I may have missed the screw circled in red. That might explain why the tab wouldn't release and definitely fits with that part of the trim still feeling secured.

Thanks for the instructions, this was tedious just hard to get a wrench and loosen the bolts (patience and persistence) is key and aligning the brackets to put the new exhaust trims on. Make sure to add painters tape around the tip and bumper for protection you’ll need it. Same process on the 50i.

A bit late but I got the #'s from my dealer. These part #'s were provided for the 2023 X5 45e with M sport trim. The only thing not blacked out are the grill and exhaust tips :|

I think there may be some difference between 40i/45e and 50i given the trouble another user mentions above.

FWIW, I did not pay those prices! I got OEM grill from FCP EURO and the exhaust tips from ebay. Searching for the part number works well on ebay. Just make sure the part number printed on the actual exhaust pictures on ebay match.

Hope that helps.

Anyone have instructions on how to replace the exhaust tips on the G05?

I thought it was going to be a pretty straightforward install. However, there are two fasteners that hold the tips on that are very difficult to reach.

I'm hoping someone here has some tips/tricks or advice before I dismantle the rear bumper.

Thanks in advance!

***UPDATE*** (Consolidating to make it easier to find this info.)

I just finished the exhaust tips install and learned a few things.

1. You DO NOT have follow the factory procedures and remove the entire rear bumper. I spent 3 hours trying to follow the procedures in the TIS. It was entirely too much work and 1 hour of the time was spent trying to recover a taillight spacer I dropped into the bumper.

2. The exhaust tips can be removed with the rear bumper attached. The caveat being my 40i has a tow hitch and I am not sure if the regular non-tow hitch bumper is the same as far as access from the bottom.

3. You will need a small 1/4" ratchet...the shorter the better. You will also need a short and extended 8mm socket and a 10mm socket along with a small flat screwdriver.

4. Detach the under-trays behind each rear wheel by removing the 8mm fasteners. Detach the heat shields from each side be removing the 10mm nuts (you will need to unplug the exhaust valve plug on the passenger side).

5. The exhaust tips are secured to a plastic carrier by (3) 8mm screws. They are blind and difficult to reach. Use an extended 8mm socket to reach the single screw on the outboard side of the carrier. Use a short 8mm socket to reach the (2) screws on [...]
Would tips like these slide over the existing exhaust tubes (that look unfinished):

Tips or tubes? I hate the way the tubes look on my 40i. They look like an afterthought. I have all the M and shadowline options, so the plastic bit that surrounds the tubes on the bumper is black, looks nice.

Some tubes allow embellishments to slide over them but I don’t think the 2024 X5 allows that.

Any ideas?

So where are we buying these tips from? I don’t want cruddy ones that turn colors after 6 months.

Same process for 2025 m60? I’m not liking the chrome. Anyone know of a YouTube for this? I’m a bit apprehensive to pulling my new car apart. And the level of cussing that may occur on a weekend.

Ok. Super tedious but i got all 3 screws removed. I have been trying for 2 hours to figure out how to now find the tabs to release the tip. I know they are somewhere along the top on both sides but i can not figure out how to release the tip. I am about to give up!!
It's loose on the sides and the bottom and feels like i am so close. Any suggestions on the procedure to release it from the clips.

So now i have all 6 blind screws out and still can not figure out how to release the tips from the plastic retaining clips. Anyone have a better description or pics of what i'm looking for to push with the screwdriver to release the tips??

Update. Watched this video countless times. Even though the bumper is off it gives you a good idea of where you need to place the screwdriver. Didn’t need to pry up as hard as i thought. 2 pictures attached of the retaining clips. The picture with the round plastic piece is the inside one. The plain one is the outer clip.
Hope this helps someone.

Great write up! Thanks for the tips.

Took me 3 hours total. Next time I’ll wait for the M50i.

Some additional tips

1. Do the driver’s side first. The passenger side is more difficult due to the wiring harness obscuring the top inner bolt.

2. Make sure you mask the area around the opening with painters tape. Add a second and third layer for good measure.

3. I found it difficult to completely remove the passenger side heat shield, instead I unbolted it and pulled it forward far enough to unblock the exhaust cover.

4. Added some pics. My apologies in advance, the bolts are not visible from underneath the car. Just feel around until your hand starts to bleed. I’ve also included the annotated TIS image as it helped me visualize what I could not see.
Hello , can you please help me? On my BMW G05 45e I want to replace the finall exhaust and i want to remove the exhaust valve actuator without any errors .. there is an emulator ? Or what elese i can do to remove it and have no errors ? Thnx

Hello,

Somehow I damaged the bracket that holds the tips. It cracked in the middle and now the tip is more in on one side.
I think its this one: Tailpipe Extension Bracket - BMW (51-12-7-452-623) But still not sure.

My question, do you have to take the bumper fully off to replace the bracket?
