You can start out in the low hundreds with logitech or thrustmaster. If you want to start big like I did...you buy into Fanatec. My first purchase was almost $3k.I've always had interest in getting a setup. Prob PC based? How realistic is it? Not afraid to spend the money on set up. Thanks!
If you want realism you get a Direct Drive Wheel base with force feed back.

Forza is fun but the cars aren't really 'sims' so much as sleds with Skins and some sliders.lbto adjust for weight and some things.
IRacing has problems with tires and a few other areas but it's still 'the best' and there're is a reason INDYCAR and NASCAR are using it. And why BMW sponsors events in iRacing.
The tracks are the best I've played and I've tracked several in the Midwest. Particularly the AC guys. I like AC but iRacing offers much more in terms of Organization and racing.
SleepingBMW wroteIs it lazer scanned tracks?I'm interested in PC. I really recommend you guys try out iRacing. We could get a bimmerpost league going.

JCZ5 wroteThe button covers are swappable so I haven't taken the Xbox set off for the generic set. I play F1 2019 on PC along with iRacing and Assetto Corsa.Wow great start! I'm waiting for my Fanatec to come in, but just starting with the CSL Elite w/ F1 club sport wheel.
I'm assuming you're playing F1 2019 on Xbox?

setup: PS4pro, PSVR, playseat, TS T300 w real wheel, T3PA, TH8A

Is GT Sport the Horizon version of Gran Turismo?
Gran Turismo Sport.
Just Controller set up, not fancy wheels for now...
Currently having fun with the Lewis Hamilton Challenge.

Haven't raced on Assetto Corsa in years and need to get back on it
Steam Name: Sal179 (Sapl)

Cameron.mac wroteI just bought a Playseat Challenge and should arrive on Monday. My only concern is when you have the playseat configured in a formula car setup, does your head still rest on the backrest or you have to keep it suspended. Also, I wonder based on the angle, if you can still reach the pedals.F1 2019. Thrustmaster setup and Playseat Challenge, aka the Budget Rig. But I love it!
Conissah wroteHa! You think that's old? I've been sim racing on and off with my Logitech Drive Force Pro for the past 20 years. The thing was built well. No issue other than a loose connector (that still works).iRacing here, and using my OLD Logitech G27. Bought it used probably 8 years ago, still works great. I'll be upgrading to a whole Fanatec set when I get a house.
I play mostly Assetto Corsa now.
Anyone here used to play (or still plays) Live For Speed? That is still the best racing sim out there to me. It was limited in that it didn't have real tracks or cars (licensing costs) but the physics were the best (except for the occasional city curb that launched you into the air) and the online play GUI was excellent.

But iRacing guys go around and take photos of every detail of the track which is good because all the references from the real world are there. Pavement discoloration trees signs etc.
MassNerd wroteI used to play a ton of LFS back in the day. I fired it up the other day and I can't say the FFB aged as well as I'd have hoped. It still felt amazing considering how old the game is, but I think AC surpassed it in terms of driving feel. LFS impact physics are leagues ahead of AC though. You can race door-to-door in LFS. Good luck with that in AC.Conissah wroteHa! You think that's old? I've been sim racing on and off with my Logitech Drive Force Pro for the past 20 years. The thing was built well. Got a G29 with shifter and Fanatec Pedals, my VR headset is currently on the way of RMA'ing though.
Also a suggestion; how about tracking miles in American/Euro Truck Simulator? Sounds like fun to keep a record of how many miles we've clocked in the name of Bimmerpost.
EDIT: I've also got the ability to set some temporary servers up, so that we might be able to race.
